I have fibrmyalgia but generally speaking it is managable. But the last week it has been unbearable. I have been in pain to the point of my limbs going past pain and into numb...
is anyone else really bad at the minute? I am just wondering is there a common reason like the weather being so bad or cold or something?

Hi Paula,
Slightly off topic, but your post reminded me of a book by Leon Chaitow which is a self help guide for Fibromyalgia.
Sorry if you already know about the book.
Namaste,
Myarka.
Awww I'm sorry you are in so much pain xxxxxx
Didn't you have low moods a couple of weeks ago? How are they now? Every problem has a context, nothing is in isolation, it's all coming from somewhere and going somewhere else.
Look up Hering's Law of cure and see if there's a pattern there. When mental and emotional problems improve they often manifest physically on the way. If this connection is not realised, then the attempt to resolve the physical symptoms drives the problem back into the mental field again, which is considered a more serious problem.
So when our patient starts getting stiff necks and headaches, it's important to ask them how both lower and higher functions are doing to establish the context. Very often they will say that they are sleeping better, or functioning better. To an extent this means they need to trust this development as part of the process, and not interfere too much with it. Or it needs supporting in a way that is harmonious with what the body is trying to do.
Improvement can often be accompanied by a transport of waste to the outside via the blood, and this is what becomes the aches and pains. The weather is a bit warmer and the days are getting longer, which may explain the timing.
On the other hand, if your moods are getting worse at the same time, that's another story. Either way, fibromyalgia can be a delicate situation, so have a chat with your main practitioner and run this thought by them.
Hi Paula
I'm in the same boat with my FMS:( and today especially I have a headache from hell to boot.
Though my sleep has been very poor - I have been worrying about money, or rather lack of it but it is so hard to break out of this cycle. I can't work as much as I'd like, therefore more credit card debt, less sleep, more pain.
But I know it is all a cycle with me so hopefully a few more days. Hope you are feeling better - if you ever need to chat just pm me x

yes I did but as depression is a side effect of fibromyalgia it is to be expected sometimes I spose. I have managed for the last years without any antidepressants and plan to keep it that way so now and again I get a low peirod I find it a little more difficult to get out of but I usually manage in the end...

Sorry, I think I must have explained that badly:
If you have primarily mental and emotional symptoms one week, and the next week mainly physical symptoms, I tend to see this as a recovery phase in the bigger picture.
The question was 'why now', because you sense the pattern is important, which it is. There are many more aspects to this, of course; this is only a tiny section of the history.
In practical terms, the point is to avoid anything that will drive the problem back higher and deeper, as this will not help you in the long term. That opens many more doors, of course, which I can't cover now.
Hi there, yes I see what you mean.. like its a cycle? I see this with my kids who have growning pains... they dont eat much for a few days then eat everything for a few days then seem very stressed for a while then the pain hits them and I spend night after night rubbing sore legs so yes I get what you mean. I think in this case I was just down because of finances, and my dads cancer and a few things had just gotten ontop of me but I do see where you are coming from tho 😉

Yes indeed, it can be a cycle, I see it more as a graph, that can have a slope in either direction, or a wave.
Our bodies are always responding, that is what we experience through symptoms. Making sense of the response and the shape of the graph helps us decide how to deal with it. At a given moment we can:
1) intervene to support the process
2) intervene to limit the process
3) leave well alone and allow the body finish what it is doing
Get this right and it isn't a cycle. Get it badly wrong and you end up much worse.
For more information look up 'Hering's Law of Cure'. It's not a practical guide, but making sense of the situation is important if you want to get better, some people don't ever think that's a possibility.
On a tangent, it looks like you have quite a lot on your plate. I can't say how to change that, but recognising the effect on you is quite important. I see many people with incredibly packed and stressful lives who don't realise this, they just think that's how it's supposed to be. Realising where their discomfort is coming from is often a huge relief in itself, long before it gets better it gets clear.

Often people have crises in their health condition this time of year due to the changing of seasons. Your body is preparing for Spring and thyroid function often increases, which affects metabolism and the immune system among other things. In the same way, thyroid function slows down at the beginning of Autumn in preparation for winter and people often get ill then.
It can sometimes help to have a few days of eating really simply with just fruit and vegetables to give your body a bit of a break.
