Hi, This is the first time I have posted, but I have been visiting for a while for advice. I was wondering if anyone can give me some advice as to what could be wrong with me?

I am 37yrs old, when I was 18 yrs old I worked with horses and suffered with painful joints - shoulders, wrists, hips and knees. I was eventually (after been told I was a hypochondriac!) diagnosed with hypermobility syndrome and advised to stop working with horses. Now after reading the symptoms of this syndrome I class myself as having it very mildly and it has not really stopped me doing what I want. I still own horses and although I suffer joint pain, can cope with it. However, for the last 5-6 weeks my muscles have ached as if I have been really pushing myself. I get muscle pain if I do something my body is not used to, but it lasts a few days and the goes. This just will not go!! I have moderate pain in my back and neck, my legs ache. But the worse is my arms, especially my right. My shoulders are painful, and they are very weak (although my general strength is above average). But they have been this way for a long time. The aching in my right arm is really getting me down. When I am at rest it is not too bad, just a dull ache, and the odd shooting pain up my forearms, but when I lift anything over a few ounces in weight it really hurts my whole arm and it feels very weak. I feel like my energy is being sapped too, and if I have to carry something heavy (like a bag of corn) I just feel drained and everything hurts! I have a horse and other animals and am doing physical stuff every day, but no more or less than normal. Is the muscle pain due to my joint pain? I have never suffered with this constant muscle pain before? Or could it be something else?

Any advice would be really appreciated. Thanks

i am not an expert i dont know what these could be , but have you tried kinesology? i used to have heavy tired legs so achy when i walk up the road but when i cut out wheat they were fine, now the legs are heavy etc as i have been eating wheat again! maybe others know more, but i would suggest going back to drs and tell them what you have jsut said on this forum thats what they are for.

it might not be food intolerance like i had it might be something else?

Hello Realm and welcome to Healthypages 🙂

Sorry to read of your pain, but members cannot give a diagnosis online, not even if medically qualified.

Though we can sympathise and share our own experiences, the best advice we can give is for you to go and see your GP for a diagnosis. Once the cause is known, then we can perhaps suggest complementary therapies and remedies that may help.

Do keep us posted, and let us know how you get on.

G.P's are notorious for classing people as hypochondriacs when they don't really know what is wrong. Take a pill and you will feel better.(and initially you may well do, as you mind suggests that you do).
I'm sorry but after several experiences with g.p's I am not full of confidence in them but you do have limited choice unfortunately.
Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks for the replies.

I am not a huge fan of our doctors, so although I know I need to go, I am loth to! When I was 18 it took my parents insisting on my seeing a specialist to get a diagnosis, the doctor we saw just made me feel stupid. I have had a couple of bad experiences since and last time when I went as I had a ganglion and my wrist was painful (the doctor told me it was impossible for the ganglion to be causing the pain and it was due to pain in my shoulder) I ended up tearful, felt an idiot and he asked if I had problems at home or suffered from depression............I haven't and I don't - I was just upset about my painful joints and been made to feel a time waster!! Unfortunatley I struggle to keep my emotions in check and then feel stupid!!!

Basically I was wondering if the muscle pain could be triggered from the joint pain or not? Also I am a vegetarian so could I be lacking something? Although I would say my diet is far better now than it used to be (I have been a vegetarian most of my life). I have recently started taking 'Joint Genie' and multi vits with iron so see if that helped, but it has been less than a week so I guess I need to give it a while.

Thanks x

Hello

sounds like you are getting on the right track to me. You're right, any nutritional supplements will take a while to show any effect, I hope you are starting to feel some improvement? Perhaps talking to a nutritionist would be helpful, as would some form of exercise outside of your usual types of movement. I am a fan of yoga, which I started two years ago due to hideous back problems, and it has helped the functioning of my entire body in a way I could not have anticipated.

Also I believe that any treatment that assesses your entire body and seeks to make progress with it is preferable to a diagnostic approach (visiting GPs is not obligatory, but I know many of us do it anyway-for the sense of support? or for the feeling that we doing 'something'?) I have had good experiences with using bioenergy healing, and don't need to go into the whys and wherefores of any issues I may have, I just have the treatments and see that it has made a difference to the way my body works and responds.

All the best
Sapna
