Hi,

I've read the opening thread about ME & Fibro and was concerned to see some inaccuracies within it. The topic seems to be locked so I've taken some bits out so as to quote them below. I know I'm a new member but as a long term sufferer of ME I feel it important to highlight these points.

The Government working group concluded last year concluded that these are 'bone fide' organic diseases & not psychological or phsyciatric deseases (sic)

With regard to ME this is incorrect. The Government has never concluded ME is an organic/physical disease. Nowhere within the 2002 Chief Medical Officers Report on this condition does it conclude that the illness has a physiological cause. In fact the report heavily leans towards psychiatric explanation - much to the horror of sufferers.

ME is more fatigue based...

Classic ME (as per the Canadian Criteria) has noting to do with fatigue. Classic ME sufferers would put 'fatigue' way down the list of their symptoms it at all. See for further explanation

In a nutshell my professional opinion is that these conditions are one & the same

Fibro and ME are different conditions. Fibro sufferer do not report the neurological symptoms described by ME sufferers i.e light, noise, odour sensitivities. Furthermore ME, CFS and Fibro are classified in different sections of the World Health Organisation International Classification of Diseases -

ME/ICD CFS is classified by the WHO as a neurological disorder (Code G93.3)

Chronic Fatigue is classified by the WHO as a mental health condition (Code F48.0)

Fibromyalgia is classified by the WHO as a soft tissue condition (Code M79)

RE: Some Truths About ME

Hiya Filigree
I totally agree, ME and Fibromyalgia are two different conditions....how do I know? because I have suffered from both. I have Fibromyalgia and have had this condition for just over a year now and a few years ago I had ME. believe me some of the symptoms maybe similar but the pain with my fibro is so different from aches and pains I had with ME. It took me a long time to get this across to any of my GPs because every time I mentioned the pains being different or if any thing different was happening to my body they would always say your ME is playing up again. NO it was not...this was some thing totally different. It took over a year to find a GP who would listen to me...adventually after blood tests and seeing a specialist I was told I had Fibromyalgia...(but I still have to have blood tests to check I have not got Lupus because I did have a rash that was relevant to Lupus but up to now it seems ok).
Apologies for any spelling mistakes....having a blonde day today 😉

RE: Some Truths About ME

Hi,
I have done the ITEc Holistic Massage course last year and kept feeling ill especially after massge about 3-5 hours later feeling very dizzy sometimes sick and a very queer feeling. I went to my doctor she after a few mtgs said she thought I might have Fibromayagia. My symptoms went away until this weekend when I have just done the IHM course and was really very Ill on the Sunday nigth similar symptoms as when doing Holistic massage course went to doctor and she said it could be fatigue again also saying it might just be a reaction to massage that she cannot explian and I might fell better but on writing this I am feeling queer again.

Feeling abit frustrated and upset that I might not be able to continue with these therapies, can you tell me if these are the same symptoms that you are feeling or does any one else get these symptom when they have done massage.

Hi Louanna, Do you only get these symptoms when giving massage and indian head massage?

If so, I'm picking up that you are very sensitive to the energies and need to remain grounded when giving treatments, also at the end of a treatment, consciously visualise yourself removing any unwanted energy from your energy field.

RE: Some Truths About ME

Hello Rosi1,

Thanks for that, I never gave it a thought that it could be the energy as I don't practice a lot of massage as it is a hobby at the moment hoping to extend to maybe part time, but when I do give massage I give my all. I will give it a try next time. I am sat at work still feeling weird and drained, I am not sure if it is supposed to last that long as I am not that experienced in the energies perhaps I should read up on them.

Many thanks again.

lots of love

RE: Some Truths About ME

Hello Rosi1 again, I have just had another thought the person that I was doing Indian Massage with on the course last weekend had ME and I suppose it's possible that I have taken this on so to speak sorry i am new to all these terms but find it all very interesting. Any advice on grounding and energies would be much appreciated. Sorry yes is the answer to feeling ill after every massag but not until about 3-4 hours later.

RE: Some Truths About ME

Thanks Lesley,

I found that very interesting, last year I even had an MRI scan on my head and neck but all was OK.

Thinking about how things have been it makes all the sense in the world, I am very sensitive to how other people are feeling and pick this up very quick and usually take it on board instead of protecting myself. I feel stupid for not thinking of the obvious.

Changing the subject I am reading the book about Mia's World by Mia Dolan, and she say's what seems a coincidence is usually that something is giving you a message.

I will let you know next week how I feel after my case study on Saturday.

Many thanks.

Love & Thoughts
