Hello all, don't really know how to start with this as am new member and never really done anything like this before. I am 19 and currently at university, I have suffered with fatigue for quite some time now, when I wake in the morning I feel like i havent slept at all regardless of how long I have actually slept for, I sometimes have to sleep during the day if i have time altho this is always regretted afterwards as it makes you feel worse altho sometimes I just cannot keep my eyes open.
On top of this I always without fail struggle to go to sleep at night.
I also suffer with a lot of stomach related problems I have Diarrhoea and constipation alternativly and suffer from a great deal of stomach pain on which I have been admitted to hospital a couple of times, during the past few years I have been in and out of the Doc's, seen a gastroenterologist and have now been told there is nothing more they can do as there isn't really a problem apart from possibly IBS. I have acid reflux altho tests say that this is normal I still get the symptons.
I have tried many different diets and cut out wheat and dairy for some time altho it did not seem to make a large amount of difference. Very recently I decided to pay £125 and get a food intolerance test done, it came back with yeast and dairy intolerance with slight egg intolerance. I have then begun looking in Candida and it really looks as if all my symptoms are on there. So tomorow I am beginning the ultra strict diet to try and get back on track. One of theworries on this is i take esomperazole for my acid and this is supposed to be quite bad for candida does anyone have any expereince of this?this really is my last chance, at the moment I am really down I dont know if this is because of my medical problems but I am really emotional and do find life and upward struggle at the moment. I don't want to go to the doctors for depression as I do not want it on my medical records as i am studying nursing and feel it might implicate my career in some way but if things do not get any better soon I might not have any other choice.
i would appreciate any sort of feedback or just to say I might be going on the right track somewhat! As a student its a very difficult life to lead and not a very cheap one!
Thanks 🙂
Claire
RE: Possible candida, fatigue and depression
Hi Claire,
I'm delighted you posted here before going off to the docs about anti-depressants.
Even having minor candida overgrowth can make you feel depressed, so it is better to deal with the root (i.e. candida) before supressing symptoms and causing yourself further grief
The feelings of fatigue are enough to make one feel depressed too [:'(]
I would suggest you start the candida diet, as you said.
Do you feel the medication is making any difference to your acid? If so, then continue with it, if not, then ditch it under the supervision of your dr.
I think you will find that *if* candida is the root problem; all the acid reflux issues will get sorted out as the candida overgrowth reduces - you'll see a dramatic difference in the abdominal symptoms too.
Do you know what you are doing with your diet or do you need guidance?
Out of interest - do you chew gum or smoke?
Holding you in a vision of health and happiness,
Amethyst x
RE: Possible candida, fatigue and depression
Hi, Thanks for replying so quickly, it means a lot just to know that someone is out there to help a little bit! i have started the candida diet today, I sort of know what im doing although any guidance would be a blessing!
I do struggle if i come off my medication at the moment but am hoping to gradually cut down and take a lower dose or a different type to see if I can cope with that.
I dont smoke although I used to about 9 months ago, i rarely chew gum as I know that it doesn't help with my acid!
Thank- you again

Ok, well maybe let me know a bit more about what you are doing, and we'll go from there.
Perhaps a list of the things you are avoiding so that we can ensure you are not missing out on any vital nutrients would be good.
and you can post up a day or two's food if you like and we'll go through it...........
I think your ideas about the medication are fine - your gp should be able to advise you on a 'weaning' programme:)

RE: Possible candida, fatigue and depression
Hi.
I had Candida and it can be cured.
I used products from a company in Devon called Resonance. They are lovely people and very helpful.
Their website is [link= http://www.resonance-health.co.uk ]www.resonance-health.co.uk[/link]
RE: Possible candida, fatigue and depression
Good luck with the diet. Stick to it - once the symptons are cleared you will feel amazing compared to now 😉
I cut out sugar and yeast for a while once and that worked a treat - I also took some pro-bacteria tablets from a health food store. These are a positive version of anti-bacteria tablets, in that they don't take away the good stuff thats in your tummy! Most important.
Once you're better, keep to ahealthy diet, because after some naughty cocacola, breads and sweets you'll be back to square A if your'e not careful.
Hope that helps.
RE: Possible candida, fatigue and depression
Thank-you for all you guidance so far its been a real help already. I am finding today quite difficult as its my second day into no sugar and I really do crave it - i do like my sweet things! 🙁
Iv given up all sugars and yeasts completly, I have also cut down on carbs and only really have rice and wholewheat pasta. Are potatoes okay? I havent had any yet and wasn't sure if they were okay - especially sweet potato. Any sort of vinegar I have given up like ketchup and mayonnaise and anything like that - mushrooms i have stopped eating as I ate them daily before! And alcohol except smirnoff vodka! (as a student i thought i should keep some alcohol in my diet) unless of course i am advised it really isnt good but i had read that distilled alcohol is okay. Dairy I don't eat now I have lacto free milk, I dont have cheese the only thing I have is natural yoghurt as i heard that is really good and I have an actimel now everyday.
Im now not having anything that comes in a jar or packaged stuff really! Oh and processed, dried or cured meat. I know it is best to get organic from a butchers but at this moment i really cannot afford that as I am on quite a strict diet and this has cost me rather a lot already!
Yesterday I had pasta, chicken, mange toout, peas and natural yog for lunch
( I didnt have breakfast as I didnt get up in time - yes im a slightly typical student!!)
For tea I had a pork chop as a treat and lettuce and cucumber and natural yog
I am addicted to mayonnaise so have been using natural yoghurt as a substitute! Altho I dont really like the stuff that much I am training myself to!
Today i have had rice cakes for breakfast ( I am struggling with things to eat for breakfast) Then porridge for lunch - I havent decided on my tea yet but possibly fish, veg and chips if potatoes are ok!!
Thank you again
Claire

RE: Possible candida, fatigue and depression
Claire,
I feel very strongly about these diets especially because I have done them several times. About 10 years ago I did allergy testing and found I could not eat many foods. I then ate only rice, potatoes, vegies for ages and rice cakes and my diet was extremely limited. Eventually I got down to 6 and half stone because I cut so many foods out of my diet (the bland foods are the ones which are virtually fat free). I was still a bit better but not 100%. Eventually I began to put the foods back into my diet because I was losing too much weight but found I had more trouble digesting them. (I have since heard that elimination diets lead to more problems). I then ate the foods again like McDonalds etc and I lived with my symptoms. I did change my diet somewhat though, I still don't drink alcohol, limit my intake of sugar - i.e. cut sugar out of my tea, don't eat many cakes/biscuits and started eating more fruit, museli, nuts and raisons and yoghurt. Over the years I have also tried many supplements garlic, drank aloevera, etc but nothing really worked much. I am better now than I used to be as long as I don't binge on sugar and yeast. I do eat bread but rotate it, ie. if I eat it today I will try not to have it for another couple of days. These days I do have Jordans Museli (contains more natural sugar), banana and then Yeo Valley yoghurts (they are the best ones for good bacteria). The yoghurts do seem to help and I notice when I haven't eaten one. But remember rotate foods a bit and I can tell you which foods are of a high yeast content and sugar because I have done this diet and read all the books. I can honestly say from experience that I said I would not eliminate foods again, one because they make you miserable being on a constant 'diet' and secondly because it is too strict - there are hardly ANY foods without yeast or sugar. Also try yoga or looking at stress in your life because I think when you are stressed symptoms flare up. I would be happy to help you more if you wish to PM me. Good luck.
