This post might fit in two or three forums, but I think this is the most appropriate place. If I am incorrect, please forgive me and move it to the best place. THANKS!
Hello!
First, THANK YOU for the valuable advice you offer here.
I suffer from a litany of things and need some advice on pain management and supplements.
Here is my situation: [:@]
- fibromyalgia
- mild spinal stenosis
- osteoarthritis (lower back)
- osteophytes (active growth; C6/C7 & L4/L5)
- depression (can you imagine that?).
- high cholesterol
- very high triglcerides
- tinnitis
I am a 5' 9", 43yr old male weighing 235lbs (overweight!).
Currently, I take:[:'(]
[Prescription]
- Vicodin
- Lexapro
- Soma
- Requip
- Vytorin
[Non-prescription]
- Low-dose aspirin
- CoQ-10
- Glucosimine/Chondrontin 1000mg
- Omega-3/Fish Oil
- men's daily vitamin (grocery store brand)
I still hurt ALL THE TIME.
I'm depressed (diagnosed by Physician & BDI-II scale).
I'm overweight.
I'm tired ALL THE TIME.
I hate this and I sometimes feel like I'm going crazy.
ONSET: In 2002, I severely hurt my back. Prior to that, I played volleyball twice per week and did pretty much anything else I wanted to do -- pretty active. Now, I feel sluggish, sad, irritable and fat.
I would appreciate some advice -- I want to get OFF THE MEDS as much as possible. I don't mind taking GOOD supplements, but they MUST do at least as good as the medications I'm taking now (which are not giving me enough release to cope daily).
I MUST lose weight as my heart disease risk is over 8x that of a normal 40yo male. Yes, I need to exercise, BUT I hurt so bad I honestly won't make myself go through the added pain and fatigue.
[color="#ff0000"]HELP, PLEASE!

RE: Pain Management - Coping
sorry to hear you feel so bad. i can't help with the meds situation but as a fibromyalgia sufferer I can share that using Reiki has helped me a lot andthe first time I had VRT (vertical reflexology therapy) when the pain was really bad left me pain free for weeks after one session.
I know everyone is different but they are 2 things you might consider.
the Reiki is wonderful for relaxing and when we relax the pain eases and we tend to feel emotionally stronger
good luck

Hi,
If you can get to London ask your GP for a referral to St. Thomas's Input Pain Programme. There is a website about it online as well. It is supposed to be the best pain management programme - I was referred but was unable to get there and back once a week for 4 weeks. It has a very good record.

RE: Pain Management - Coping
Dear Charlie,
I'm very sorry to hear that you are having so many problems and, having suffered from osteoarthritis myself in the past,I can certainly understand why you would feel depressed.
I am a Nutritional Therapist by profession and have recently presented a seminar on 'The role of Nutritional Therapy in musculoskeletal pain and inflammation' to a group of 'medics' in Harley Street, London. Attendees included neurosurgeons, osteopaths, physiologists, radiographers, podiatrists, pain management specialists and physiotherapists.
My advice would be for you to contact a qualified Nutritional Therapist who would need to address your gut dysfunction (yes - there isa direct link!), oxidative stress and thirdly, prescribe you an anti-inflammatory diet.
I hope this helps.
Best wishes for being pain-free,
Janine at NutriLife Clinic
RE: Pain Management - Coping
It more important it is that the medicines you should take it according to the prescription of the doctor and never should abandon the processing.
