I was talking on the phone with an ex-colleague of mine, and had asked how is children were. He then told me the sad story of his son. Now here are the details - can anyone suggest a therapy to be tried? Would NAET help? What about MLD?
"2001 and 2002 - increased incidence of mild viral infections - coinciding with going to boarding school so we think its all the communal living etc.
2002 - starts at Uni - towards the end of term gets a more serious virus - we later find out it's mononucleosis and is ill for a couple of weeks. Comes home on the mend but 2 weeks into the next term he relapses - recovers slowly and is okay by Easter. Next term - after 2 weeks he relapses and he goes to see the doctor.
We then brought him to Geneva as he was not able to cope and took him to see a doctor and then haematologist. Finds he has low platelets and raft of tests done for cancer HIV hepatitis etc - nothing found
Referred to allergy specialist who diagnosis is "off the scale" allergy to grasses and allergy to birch tree etc pollen. Other allergies but none serious.
Also Swiss doc diagnosed an overreactive immune response - his thinking was that the immune system is attacking the platelets hence the low count - around 100 as opposed to a norm of 135 - 350 (not sure of the exact details here). Doc finds a lot of internal inflammation due to allergies which he is being treated for and doc says this has now gone. Also the doc treated the immune system with luivac and initially the platelet count went up to 126 but it's now consistently down again at 100. The Swiss doc has taken him off the immune system treatment (Luivac) - not sure why. I've got to speak to his Swiss doc about this.
Symptoms include an inability to concentrate, very lethargic in the mornings, very tired after exercise and sleeplessness. Also his Swiss doctor noted that the UK stomach test showed that, in spite of a very healthy appetite he is slightly burning body protein - like anorexics do. Jules also complained of trouble with his stomach - irritation and diarrhea - doc thought that maybe Jules has ulcers and the platelets are being used to deal with this and not replaced quickly enough by the body. However endoscopic exam reveals no problem with the stomach except the protein burn. Also all other blood test results are now normal except the platelets. He has the usual allergy symptoms - runny eyes which sometimes are sore and tingling lips if he eats certain foods.
He began to feel quite a lot better in the summer and went back to live in London. He hadn't touched any alchohlic drink since summer 2003 as he felt that this weakens his recovery but as he was feeling quite a lot better he went to a party had some drinks and relapsed.
His UK doctor has said that he is suffering from chronic fatigue syndrome, the platelet problem is genetic and that he may not be over the mononucleosis - but the Swiss docs say that he is! I know it's silly to jump to conclusions but all the symptoms and problems seem to point to the immune system. Why does a very lively sporty and energetic child / young teenager turn into a very unenergetic person in his late teens? "
RE: Help requested - any recommendations?
I know of no orthodox treatment currently in use in the UK that are known to work, but there may be something further afield.
Re. NAET ( Nambudripad's Allergy Elimination Techniques ) I would say - yes, there's a very good chance that it would help and it's now spreading across Europe.
I would hazard guess that the doctors are only looking at the standard type allergy known as the IgE type. The are various methods, including NAET that, also consider a lower grade 'hypersensitivity' IgG type. NAET is aimed at clearing the allergies and so reduce the immune activity. It sounds like this young chap's immune system has a blind spot with regard to viruses and NAET may well help with this too.
It's my professional opinion that most CFS / ME and fibromyalgia is actually due to multiple chemical / substance hypersensitivity, but then I'm biased as I practice NAET. But I would say that it hauled me out of a similarly sticky health situation.
Here's the official European website with database of NAET practitioners.
There's more info about the system itself on link below and also you may want to check out the Allergy Forum on here.

Hi,
I would suggest Reiki or Reflexology, I have had good success with ME/CFS with both therapies.I would agree with Anahata that allergies/sensitivities can be involved, but in my own experience its not always the case that its the core of the issue. I do believe long term stress and emotional trauma can have a major effect.

Hello
Firstly I have no medical knowledge other than anything I have experienced but I would like to highlight that there is a pattern to the events you have listed which involve seperation from the 'family unit'. I know that these are severe conditions he is experiencing but you would be amazed what psychosomatic (cant spell) things the body and mind can produce. I had chronic fatigue last year and I too was going through a repetitive emotional cycle as it were anyway to cut a long story short, I was put onto medication which I didn't want to remain on so I decided to try dianetics which worked fantastically. So much so that I was off medication within three months much to the delight of my GP when I was supposed to stay on for years. Just a thought from another angle as they say...... Best wishes Sam x

You say that he had a relapse when he had a drink? I would say from this that he is most definitely allergic to alcohol, over the years I have become allergic to it too and my daughter cannot drink much without feeling ill either. She drinks very little now and says that this can only be a good thing after all alcohol is a poison in itself.
As to what else to do I'm sorry I don't know but certainly abstaining from the boozy juice will help I am sure. I think that his body is reacting to various things and he may have a certain amount of food intollerence as well. Has he tried dropping some foods and then trying them again to see if that has an affect. Not only am I allergic to alcohol but milk also makes me ill so now I have to drink soya milk. Could he be having an extremely violent reaction to something like this.
