hi,i would appreciate any advice if you can relate to my post.
for the past 3 months i have felt generally unwell.
joint pain ,no energy, heavy arms and legs somedays unable to move about as i feel so tired.
symptoms similar to IBS ,from what ive read on this site, swollen tummy so big somedays i feel im waddling like im 9 months pregnant.constipation/loose stools. itchy skin, back pain and neck pain.
I went to the doctors 3 weeks ago and she sent off bloods which came back all clear water sample showed bacteria was present and a stool sample showed blood was present,i have not noticed any blood when i go to the toilet so doctor thinks it is not from piles.I am now waiting for an appointment for a colonoscopy and results of further blood tests.
I did manage a pilates class on tuesday and feel this has unlocked some energy as i have felt more like myself these past few days.
im 36yrs old and take vitamin d and st johns wort.
please reply xx
First of all, excess vitamin D is toxic. If you're eating a lot of cereal, bread and drinking a lot of milk then taking the vitamin D supplement is a bad idea. A lot of people are wheat intolerant and more and more Gps and Nutritionists are recommending that people lower their wheat intake (which is probably why all these new cereals like Oatibix are appearing). The bloating is quite likely to be down to excessive wheat intake.
I would suggest lowering your wheat intake. All the major supermarkets stock "free from" products such as wheat and gluten free pasta, biscuits, bread etc. Unfortunately, these are hidden away from the main stock of the same products in aisles titled anything from "speciality" foods to "wholefoods", "ethnic foods" etc so it can take a bit of a hunt round the supermarket to find them. These products used to be slightly less tasty than the packaging they come in but have improved a lot in recent years and are actually very nice now (apart from maybe the wheat free bread).
I'm not a doctor or a nutritionist, just someone who took the time to learn about these things, so I would suggest consulting someone who is properly qualified to advise you.
thanks for your post,it would be easier to eliminate weat from my diet than seek out substitutes as there is not alot of choice but lots of fresh fruit and veg and organic meat ,so changing my diet would be ok.im reluctant to do this befor im tested as i have read that this can lead to false negative test.
also the dr perscribed vitamin d to help with depression due to few day light hours and i do use the natural light lamps in the house and by my bed. thank again xx
Hi merrydust,
I know how it feels when these things happen and not knowing the causes. Its not just the symptoms of what the problem is, but it's also the worry of what it might be.
I don't think you should change your diet until you've gone through the full range of tests with your GP and follow their guidence. Don't worry about the colonoscopy, it's a painless procedure, and it just makes feel a bit bloated. When I had mine I was facinated watching the TV pictures of my insides, beats Star Trek any day!
These problems increase stress levels considerably and the stress levels add to the way we feel. So practice some relaxation techniques, particularly diaphramatic breathing. You can find the instructions by googling it.
Hoping all goes well for you,
Myarka.
I get some of these symptoms too. My way of dealing with it is to distract myself by doing something nice - something for me - or throwing myself into a project. Some extra sleep may help.
I wish it was as easy as distracting my self but this is almost imposible with so little energy and i have 5 children to look after, you would think this would be distracting enough.
sleep deprivation is a terrible thing and i do go to bed early to rest and i lie awake unable to sleep but my body is so tired, this is so frustrating.then i can go through phases of sleeping constant sleeping.
thanks for the advice anyway.xx
Hi, I have just been reading your post and wonderd if anyone as has suggested M.E to you? I suffer with ME./CFS and some of your symptoms, such as the general unwell, ibs, no energy, struggling to cope with every day tasks sound simlar to my first symptoms, esp as you have had it for a while. Doctors generally wait 6 months to see if you imporve and sadly as there are no test not M.E they rule out any other illness first, so it can take a while to detect it. What ever is causing you to fell like this, you have my sympthay, as you sound like you struggling. take lots of care x
thanks for your post .i had not considered M.E.
I have just had blood tests for food allergies and then i will have been tested for everything that needed ruling out.
I have my colonoscopy on the 8th dec.
after that I dont know what will happen ,I do feel like my energy levels have improved since i started pilates a few weeks ago.I cant manage all the exercises but I do feel a sence of achievement from what i have done.
but you are right i do feel down with the weight gain and lack of energy, aches and pains.....................you know what I mean,so I dont need to go on.
thank you for taking the time to reply xx
I should explain I had to join again when I moved and changed email address. so I was merry dust now shelleymoon xx
after that I dont know what will happen
Hi,
You are worrying about the unknown and even worrying about the symptoms, and it's very scary stuff. I've been through it myself and quite often these are a combination of things, and it's because of this complexity that I believe holistic living is so important. All symptoms do is say to us that something isn't right, not that something is wrong. Probably not very clear, but bear with me.
You have the medical side working through and you will get the answers to what you seek, which may or may not be all of the picture. But holistic living means that we should look at all aspects of lifestyle because these things take years to build up. So to deal with any issue, we shouldn't be looking for solutions, but we should look for causes. The problem with modern day living is that society has lost sight of a "baseline" lifestlye, and we've become solution driven. If we've got a problem we can google it and someone has a quick fix.
Therefore if someone presents a set of symptoms, it would be wrong to say do this or that, because I'm not a doctor and I don't know if your lifestlye is putting you at risk.
I understand you've recently relocated. Did you feel like this before you moved? Do you smoke? Have you adopted a new diet? Are you over weight? Has the move met your expectations? Is your relationship working?
Don't answer these questions through this thread, but start thinking about a life declutter. If the answers to these questions are the cause of how you feel, then changing your diet or detoxing or whatever you do isn't going to make a long term difference. When really what you need is the meeting of your basic needs, physically, emotionally and psychologically.
