I was recently told by my rhuematologist that I had fibro. I'm just wondering if he's right. I have neck and back stiffness constantly. According to my neck xrays the rheumie said he didn't see arthritis and my bloodwork was o.k. I've been to many chiros. Most say that I have no natural curve in neck, actually a little reverse curve and so I carry my head forward. They say that causes all the muscles in my neck and shoulders and back to spasm. Who do I believe? I don't know if I should go back to the chiros or take the drugs the rheumatologist prescribed. I'm really afraid to take the anti infllammatory because of the warning label. Don't know what to do. The muscle relaxers don't seem to help for very long and even taking half of one before bed I feel hungover the whole next day! I don't know what to do.
RE: Do I really have fibromyalgia?
Unfortunately, only qualified medical practitioners are allowed to offer diagnosis, although I'm sure you'll get plenty of suggestions for ways forward on here.
Thetherapies I can think of that offer benefits to spinal conditions are chirpractic (which you've already seen) and spinal touch. Spinal touch works to re-align the spine and body's posture using a very gentle massage technique. Although I haven't had it done myself, I know someone who has and I've seen it in action. There was an immediate difference and after 4 sessions (the posture was very out of line at the start) the posture was almost perfect. Perhaps worth looking into?

RE: Do I really have fibromyalgia?
Hi Rhonda
It can all get very worrying when you see a specialist like a chiro without improvement and the GP just wants to give you medication.
It may take a while to find the right specialist treatment but dont give up. Each will look at your problem from a different mindset.
accupunture, osteopath/cranial osteopath deep tissue massage triggerpoint massage ect ect.
Sometimes a physical problem wontget better due to emotional worries. When you think back to when all this started is it possibly linked to an event in your life that wasdifficult to deal with ?
Sometimes we all need tomeditate/seek helpfor the past to find links to present ailments.

RE: Do I really have fibromyalgia?
derekw,
Thanks for the PM. I tried a few rolfing sessions several years ago. I did feel good when I left the sessions but I seemed to tighten right back up. I might give it another try. The sessions are pretty expensive and I know my insurance won't pay. I have bought a lot of pillows over the years. I have an expensive one it's just hard to get used to sleeping on it because it's not very soft. I know it would probably keep my neck in better alignment however. I also bought something called a posture pal pillow. You are supposed to lay on it for 20 minutes a day. It is basically designed to help restore the curvature of your neck. You feel like yourhead is laying back in a hole. I'm just afraid to use it because of the pulsing I sometimes feel. Thanks for your input, I agree with you.
