I am unsure if this is the correct forum for my posting, please move to correct forum, if wrong.
Thank you
I would like to know if there is anything other than splints that I could do to help Carpal Tunnel, I have just started back full time inComplementary Therapy, and there is alot of massage involved, (which I do love, but give alot of pain afterwards). i do not want to say anything as it taken me a long time to get back into my career, esp full time.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
RE: Carpal Tunnel Symdrome
I used the splints for sleeping, and finally gave in and had the surgery after putting up with the pain for just over two years. The relief was instantaneous - in both hands - even though I only had the right hand 'fixed'. I didn't want the procedure on the left side, as I have had breast cancerwith all the lymph nodes removed from the axilla, so didn't want to risk inducing lymphoedema. However, following the procedure, I noticed that the pain also stopped in the left hand. Weird!!!
The op only took 15 minutes, with local anaesthetic. The most painful part was when the tourniquet was released, but this only lasted a couple of minutes. I am SOOOO glad I cracked and had it done - believe me, I had tried everything else over the previous 3 years - homeopathy, chiropractic, osteopathy, herbal medicine, sports massage therapy - I spent a fortune but had no relief.
RE: Carpal Tunnel Symdrome
Thank you for the advice, we have physiotherapists whereI work, and she also said the only way to get rid of it is the operation, she also said it could also be a lack of fluid in the diet or too much salt, I have to say I very much dislike salt, but know myself do not take enough fluid, do you think this coulod help,as at the moment cannot take time off, for operations.
I also wear the splints at night which is a great help.
Thanks again, I apprecaited the information you gave me.

Hiya
I have successfully massaged people with carpel tunnel and all of them have avoided the need for an operation, obviously this may not apply to everyone but it may be worth a shot!

RE: Carpal Tunnel Symdrome
Acupressure is very good for this.
I#ve had this off and on over the years and it often seems to be worse on holidays when I'm not using my hands so much. The way I deal with it is to use acupressure on the points p6 and p7 which works really well.
The points are located in the middle of the inner side of the forearm, two and one-half finger widths above the wrist crease(p6) and on the inside of the wrist crease(p7). You can also press from the corresponding points on the other side. (TW5 and 4) It is very effective.
P6 is also the acupressure point for travel sickness and nausea.
Hope it improves soon. It is a real worry when you earn your living through your hands. How long are you out of action with the op Jabba.

RE: Carpal Tunnel Symdrome
I was out of action for 10 days, which I worked into a week off work (I am self-employed). I started work on day 11, and avoided heavy massage techniques for a further 5 days. I do MLD, which is a very light technique, but didn't book any lymphoedema patients for a further two weeks to avoid over-doing it.
I know of two people who had bothhands done on the sameday. Both had help athome, which is useful, as you would be amazed at thelimitations involved!!!
I do not overdo salt, never have. I drink, on average, 1.5 - 2 litres+ waterevery day. Idid try everything I could to help myself, but could not affordany more time off for either copingwith the pain,or attending therapists for help. Surgery was my best option.
RE: Carpal Tunnel Symdrome
Vitamin B6 (probably taken along with the other B's) is reckoned to be good for this, although I have no personal experience of this.
hope you find something that helps, and preferably soemnthing that's not too drastic.
RE: Carpal Tunnel Symdrome
It depends what you are doing that is causing it.
