Hope you're not eating right now! Recently I have had 2 episodes of bringing up/vomiting just brown liquid from my stomach - no food....a lot (about 3 -4 pints in various bouts) and can't work out what this could be. I don't have diarrhoea. The only thing that occurs to me is that I have recently started drinking an effervescent Vit C + zinc tablet (the kind that dissolves in water) - only one a day...orange coloured. Could it be this? I thought liquid passed straight through you, i.e. not lay accumulating in your stomach, i.e. over days. How can that be? It happened this morning i.e. before I even had the drink but had a glass late last night.

The only other thing that I am wondering is whether or not it could be something I picked up from visiting my mother in hospital. This is fairly important since I don't want to pass on anything to her so I guess I need to establish whether or not it is contagious. She currently has diarrhoea but I have not contracted this.

Any help, suggestions, leads would be very welcome.

We can't diagnose but could it be a form of Norovirus? In which case, it may be worth a call to your mothers ward, describe your symptoms and ask one of the nurses if they would give you advice about visiting etc. One of our local hospitals recently had 4 wards closed due to this virus.

Are you still there Mike? Not sure where to put this, but having Signed In to the main site, I keep finding that if I want to post a reply (like on this thread), I am being asked to sign in again. When I quoted Amy's post, there seemed to be no demarcation between her quote and my reply.

Also - under the healthypages logo in the main banner, at the top of all the threads I have been too, there appears to be a bit missing from the banner line above Watched Members/Watched threads etc. Will we have to sign in each time we visit from now?

Ah ..for a minute I thought I had lots of replies...but just one! (Teething problems with the new style here I see. Wouldn't mind a few more emoticons! 😉 Mike...do you know about, when you go back to correct a post, you sometimes lose the colour of text? Also - on the trophy awards - got one that said "someone likes me" but nothing to click on to discover who!? Curioser and curioser....)

Have checked out the norovius - not that since I don't have diarrhoea. Also enquired on her ward - there is an outbreak of vomiting and co-starring diarrhoea but it doesn't match the brown liquid theme (only once brought up food, when I chanced a small apple). Have to stay away from the ward for 48 hours because I am vomiting...can't recall if it's from when I started to vomit or the last indulgence. Another phone call....

I have now established that it is bilious vomiting...still lost as to why though.

How do you feel of yourself? I would suggest going to the doctor. If it's brown liquid it could be blood. Probably nothing to worry about but it wouldn't hurt to pay a visit to check it out.

Hi Alison - I see you are a new member so welcome!

Thanks for your post. I am very rarely ill and recovered quickly from this (quite heavy) bout, i.e. lasted a day .... which I slept through most of - as my body dictated. Am feeling back to normal now. It did happen very briefly (one session) about a week ago. I feel inclined at this point to put it down to maybe something contracted from visiting my mother in hospital. I may well see the GP should it occur again though.

HI Amy,

When I read your original post my immediate thought was you were bringing up bile. Clearly you have discovered this for yourself. Have you been to your GP? I do hope you are feeling better now

Yes recovered now. Wish I knew what the cause was though...google searches yielded nothing. Wondered if it might be related to hospital bugs. My mum's ward had gone down with a bug but it was vomiting and diarrhoea (I had no diarrhoea) and no food vomiting.

Should it occur again I may consider visiting GP. Thanks for your post.

Often helps to track down what you had 24-48 hours prior to that vomit bout actually starting up.
Bile colour would be very rich in its yellow colour..
In anycase, Im reassured to know that you will consult your doctor , iof this were to happen to you again .

Be well.
with warm wishes
Vathani
