My son has ADHD and I'm wondering if diet is a factor and if certain foods are upsetting him. He is under Gt Ormnd Street and they say that diet does not in any way affect ADHD.

He is 10. Has anyone else with this condition tried it and found it beneficial?

RE: York Test Labs

Hi there,

I spoke to the Headmaster from a school that did a trial on EFAs (Essential Fatty Acids) apparantly the research they did suggested that by giving children EFAs can improve behaviour. There is a great one called Eye-Q that does them in fun flavoured sachets, so that could be a supplement to try.

From my experience as a nursery nurse, I know that some of our children were not allowed stuff like squash and brightly coloured sweets as it triggered off hyperactivity.

It might be worth having your child tested to see if they have a sensitivity to certain foods that makes their condition worth. If this is the case, it might be worth talking to a qualified nutritionist as they might be able to help you revamp your child's diet.

Good luck, hope it all goes well!

Gemma xx 🙂

He has taken eye-q for about 5 months and there has been a slight improvement but it is one of those things that one day we think there are improvements and another day there are none.

He stopped taking eye-q to do DDAT (exercise routine). He's done that for a year. They recommend returning to omega 3s following that which is now doing.

He's quite a fussy eater so actually most of the 'trigger' foods are excluded anyway.

I'm really wondering if there may be a problem with something like yeast or wheat.

Really want to know has anyone tried this?

Is it worth it?

I have just started a thread on the harmful additives that are added and allowed to be put in our childrens food.

You will find a whole list of stuff (Es) to look out for in there which will definitely have an effect on your child...

Just click on any of the E numbers and it will explain what it is, why you should avoid it and why it is harmful to your child. Espesially to children with ADHD...

The thread I started is here:-

Certainly diet can effect those with ADD & ADHD but not all of it. ADD & ADHD is a large spectrum of ipmarements. My son has ADD & with out doubt Diet effects him. He suffers with Candida of the gut( An over growth of fungi.) caused by sugars Carbohydrates & yeasts within his diet. The moulds & spores from the trees in the Autumn through to spring also effect him

Bright blessings Maria xxx
