Hi,[&o]
I am a very tired and anxiuos mum of a little 8 month girl.
From day one my daughter Kiera was sick when she was fed. I was told initially it was mucus in her pipes and system following birth, it wasn't. Then Iwas advised that the formula didn't agree with her (Couldn't breast feed as didn't have any milk). Tried all feeds on the market...not that either.
Pushed at gp's to get to see the paediatrician. Finally got an appointment after being basically accused of being an over sensitive 1st time mum. Diagnosed with oeasophageal reflux and given a cocktail of drugs to try. The ranatidine to neutralise stomach acid is fine but the anti sickness drugs make her poorly. She is a very happy little thing and I cannot see the point of making her ill but wish the sickness would stop! If we make her laugh, she gets hiccups or crawls soon after a feed up it comes! Even solids have not stopped it.

However, because she gains a little weight each week i.e.2 ounces the hospital are not concerned. Not much help for us parents and my poor carpets! Even the washing machine cries when i approach due to over working! Does anyone have any advice or natural remedies which i could try? Willing to give anything a go.

Much appreciated...

If anything - I think you may be being oversensitive to your washing machine! 😀

You're right to push for help on this, but sadly I would question the approach used.

Cranial osteopathy may help calm her stomach down and failing that, then she may have a problem with milk/formula.

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for the response. The washing machine is a family joke (sad I know)!
When you say you feel it might be the milk how would that effect her solids aswell? I initially thought the same thing but sadly when solids were introduced it didn't stop. Have stopped all prescribed drugs now as I feel they were not helping anyway. Do you honestly think cranial osteopathy will help?

Thanks again,

Claire;)

Has she had any kind of scan or endoscopy checking the valve going into her stomach?

Hi There,

I do not have kids, so bear with my lack of knowledge.

My friend had her baby early January and would throw up her feed. My friend took her to the docs and had a scan done. This showed part of her intestines looped around her stomach. They were very matter of fact about it and reassured my friend that this was not unusual. They were given some drugs to help and said it usually rights itself. If it did not then an operation was offered. My nephew had it done, very easy as they open the baby up and unloop it. Initially the scar looks dreadful but as the baby grows the scar shrinks and now you can hardly see it.

I seem to remember someone mentioning to me about it being manipulated back by massage but have no more than that.

Best of luck,

Russell

Hi,

In my experience reflexology could help this condition.

Good luck

My daughter suffered from really bad colic right from the word go.

A friend of ours told us about cranial osteopathy. What a miracle - it worked.

It was due to the fact that I pushed her out in 20mins and therefore her chest and stomach were compacted. After a couple of treatments she was a different baby.

She is now 2 1/4 and goes for regular monthly appointments. Its so weird every time she grows she reverts back slightly to her birth trace.

I know this is different to your little one - but cranial osteopathy really worked for us.

Hi Delamare,

Dont dispair, keep pushing the issue.

I also had similar problems with my son at the age of 6months when solids were introduced. He was also diagnosed as a very collicy baby. Formulas didnt work nor was my breast milk that much help either. As it turned out he was allergic to dairy protien and soy along with many other food groups and suffering from chronic reflux. Left unchecked the vomiting caused severe Oesopharagitis. With the help of a Paediatric Gastroenterolgist prescribing Ominoprozel brand name LOSEC most of the vomiting has stopped and his reflux issues are well in hand.
Please consult your doctor about refering Kiera onto a Gastroenterolgist before her Oesphageous gets so badly burned from the stomache acid. As was the case with my son.
The good news is that once they start walking its gets a bit easier.

Hope this helps

I know this is an old thread but incase anyone reads with the same problem I will second the above!
Cranial Osteopathy is brill! My son stopped sicking up after 2 sessions..again the result of a fast birth (just a 90 minute labour. Next time (i'm 3 months pregnant) I'm going back to the CO straight after the birth whether there's a problem or not!
