My grand-daughter has been diagnosed with a conditioned the doctor called "Nurse's Arm." When her arm is tugged, the elbow cartiledge dislocates or something. My son has been taught how to pop it back into place. The arm does not look abnormal when it happens, but she can barely move it and it hurts. The arm does not have to be jerked, just tugged slightly. They were told it is something she will suffer with all her life. She is only 2-1/2. She and her 3-1/2 year old brother play rough a lot, so you can imagine that it happens often.
I cannot find anything on the Internet on a condition called "Nurse's Arm." Is anyone familiar with this condition?

Hi Lilsassy,
Welcome to HP. 🙂
I think what you are after is Radial Head dislocation, also known as 'Nursemaids elbow'.
I've looked on the net for you and found this site:
I hope this helps
Take Care and a big [sm=hug.gif] for your grand-daughter.

RE: "Nurse's Arm"
My daughter had somehting like this when she was 3 it all started when her friend was pulling her onto the slide (as they do) and her shoulder came out of its joint. She had to wear a sling for a few days and I too was taught how to put it back into place.
I was told not to play games with her which involved pulling her by her arms. You know like swings when two people each hold one arm and swing them in the air, as this could pull her shoulder out again.
Only once more did her should come out and that was again when she was being pulled onto her bunk bed by her cousin aged 5.
I can now say that she is nearly 15 and we have never had anymore trouble.
You just have to be carefull and everything should be OK.
RE: "Nurse's Arm"
[sm=dogrun.gif] Hello i am not sure how many people read these things but i have some helpful advince if your child has nursemaids elbow. i know these because when i was about five, me and my brother were playing tug of war and i was only holding on with my left arm, when he gave that thing a hard pull i was in so much pain! my mom took me to different docters and they all sent me to this one docter dr. wise. if you could listen to my mom now telling me what all happened it was terrible i was in so much pain! he gave me the push and put me in a sling...and he thought that would work! i am now 16 almost 17 and i still very much have it my arm was never fixed.....i am finally tired of it. the most problemous thing i think i have had is so many people dont want to believe you espically kids. i have gone to my local docters and they will not give me a referral to go anywhere else they dont see anything wrong. so i am stuck ssome days are worse than others but i will still be the girl that always has her left arm bent and at her stomach because that is the only comfortable spot. my advice is try to find a docter that knows what he is doing because if you dont your child will soon have to face a life of terrible pain.i hope i helped someone out there.[sm=love-smiley-009.gif][sm=nature-smiley-008.gif]
RE: "Nurse's Arm"
Dear Kitty Kat,
Don't give up on getting help for this. Ask to see someone else in the surgery for a physio referral - it's not your Doctor's business to "not see anything wrong" and tell you to go away and put up with an anatomically deviant and painful elbow joint! Acvtually you might be better to pay go and see an osteopath, as soon as you can.
Also to take glucosamine sulphate and MSM - to keep your joints nourished (cod liver oil too).
And also look at tapping (EFT) - it's an easily learnt therapy for getting rid of physical and emotional pain which is trapped in our bodies.
Sharon.
Also Mods - would it be better to put this thread in limbs rather than childrens health - it might pick up some input from osteopaths/accupuncturists.
