[:o] Can anyone provide nutritional advice for a good friend of mine, whose little boy has decided he doesn't want to eat anything.

She's hoping there may be a supplement he could take (someone suggested fatty acids ...) to encourage his appetite.

Ta everso.

RE: Little boy not eating!

Hi Dink,

A few possibilities from my point of view, assuming that he is not so malnourished that he needs supplements to feel hungry:
The little boy may be intolerant to something/s in his food and his body is telling him not to eat it/them;
There may be something physically wrong with his digestive system which requires investigation;
He may be suffering from a traumatic incident or occurences and not eating may be a way of seeking attention or gaining control over something, even if that something is only apetite;
He may have had (a) terrifying experience(s) leading to a phobia of swallowing.

I would suggest that your friend:
Lets the boy eat whatever he wants - make it all available to him and allow him to choose when and what to eat. I don't mean to go out buying crisps and sweets, just have lots of different foods around (not processed) and let him choose, an allergy/intolerances test would also be a good idea;
If this fails, investigates the physical and emotional issues above with the doctor and perhaps with family counselling.

I hope this helps.

RE: Little boy not eating!

Hi
TigerBee is right, most children go through this. My 7 year old is still fussy with her food. Try thinking about making the food look fun, this worked with my kids, now they are healthy eaters! The best thing is to find out what he does like eating, and give him more of that if mum is worried.
But like New Age London says, if its something that may have upset him to cause him not to eat, then go see your GP.

Take Care
Michelle

TigerBee

Thanks to you (and to everyone so far) for comments.

Said friend lives in San Diego and is on holiday for a week. I was hoping to get some suggestions for her return. All her e-mail said was that her little boy had stopped eating and his behaviour had been bad all week (small wonder if he's not eating, obviously!).

Thanks to everyone. I will forward all suggestions on to her for her return.

RE: Little boy not eating!

When my son was 5 all he would eat was sausages brown sauce and raw carrots, lol for 2 years, we would all tuck into christmas lunch but all he wanted was that, needless to say he is now 12 and eats everything and is taller than me ~ i am 5ft5, all i am trying to say is children worry us sometimes but they are a lot tougher than we think 😉 So if the GP finds nothing wrong maybe he is just going through a phase. i am sure he will be ok,

Hello,

Hard to give advice whithout knowing more... How old is he?
Could it be that the child does not like San Diego (out of his normal environment?). Did the mother ask the boy WHY he doesn't want to eat anymore?
