RE: Head Lice
This made me smile, as I have just spent 45 minutes combing through my youngest daughters hair getting rid of the hopefully dead little blighters following the "Full Marks" treatment that I hate having to use.
She has had head lice on and off for the past 3 months - i get rid of them, onl;y for her to get them back a few weeks later. I hate using chemicals, and have relied on the conditioner/combing route, coupled with the homeopathic Staphisagria as a final rinse.
Trouble is, if there is a child in the class who has the lice, and their parents are not treating their child, it just keeps going round and round the class.
And who says they don't jump??!!!! I have seen them leap off the nit comb as am about to get them!!
Ok, I am itching now.................

RE: Head Lice
I don't know what to suggest expect finding the right shampoos and coming away. Apprently using LOADS of conditioner helps coz then they have nothing to grip onto coz its so slippery.
Its such a vicious cirle, as soon as you get your child clear they get them again at school! In South Africa when I was a child if you got head lice you wernt aloud back at school untill the doctor and a school nurse had given you the all clear! I think that is so much better and it then doesnt spread as easily!
Good luck to you all! 🙂
RE: Head Lice
My son is going to nursery for the first time tomorrow. I have searched high and low for natural remedies and there is not many out there.
I did find one, which has appealed to me, and I will probably use this when needed.
I found it in my ‘The Green Witch – a modern woman’s herbal’ by Barbara Griggs’ book.
Barbara Griggs found this remedy in Maggie Thisserand’s Aromatherapy for Women.
This is what she suggests: To 75ml/2½floz of oil (use a bland Almond or Sunflower oil) add the following essential oils: 25 drops each of Rosemary and Lavender, 12 drops of Eucalyptus; 13 drops of Geranium. Section the hair carefully, applying the oil mixture to the roots all over the head; then carefully comb the oil all through the hair. Pile it on top of the head, then wrap cling film tightly around it. Leave on for a couple of hours. Then shampoo and use a fine-toothed comb to comb out the now-dead nits. Repeat after 2 weeks.
Tea Tree oil is another effective treatment for nits. Use a Tea Tree oil shampoo boosted with 10-12 drops of the pure oil – or add 15-20 drops to an ordinary shampoo. Leave the shampoo on for 10 minutes, then rinse out, and repeat a week later.
RE: Head Lice
Hi to all of you itchy people
I am a hairdresser by profession and recommend the following. Wash the hair in a medicated shampoo. Rinse and then apply some conditioner as mixed below. Comb through thouroughly and then rinse in tea tree water. Leave to dry naturally if possible. The headlice and nits don't like the smell of tea tree oil at all. This i have found to work better than all of the ready made very expensive treatments. For the conditioner all you need is a large bottle of relatively cheap stuff with little or no smell. Add approx 7-10 drops to the bottle and shake. For rinsing add 4-5 drops of oil to the water but it must be luke warm or tepid NOT hot. For the first night of treatment leave the conditioner on overnight then for the first week do it every night and then for the second week every other night. As a prevention rinse the hair in the oil solution. Remember to change the pillow case every night and keep hair tied up or off of shoulders as lice crawl they do not jump that is a myth. Fleas jump!
Hope this works for you....happy de-licing

RE: Head Lice
I'm lucky enough to have a boy, who's head I can shave if it gets too ridiculous! hahaha. But honestly I've never had a problem. He likes to keep his hair longish because he likes to have it spikey and I think it's probably the gel that keeps them at bay. They don't like dirty hair, and i'm not suggesting that you don't wash your childrens hair, lol, but maybe if you tie her hair in a tight bun and spray a bit of hairspray on it. If you don't like the idea of that then you could try again tea tree shampoo, eucalyptus etc. Try diluting a couple of drops of Citronella oil with 10mls of grapeseed oil and adding that to the shampoo. Make sure you dilute it correctly though as it's a citrus oil and can irritate. Don't use it if she has sensitive skin either.
