Well after gaining control of yet another infestation in my sons hair, I am dreading his return to school on Monday in case he catches the little blighters again[X(] Nits are rife, and all because some parents dont know how to deal with the problem, or worse still Dont care![:@]
I remember my nit nurse fondly, she had a lovley touch, I always enjoyed her head investigation, it was very soothing, and do you know what....I never had nits!
Bring her back!

RE: Bring back the nit nurse!!!!

one of my friends gets infuriated with the whole process. so sooner has she got rid... then they are back on her children's hair..
prob is.. the mums who don't either realise or can't be bothered to do anything about it.....

it is alo a catch 22 - esp. when children from different schools play togther.. passes it about... but yes... it should be made more aware as soon as a outbreak occurs.... .. the whole school should be informed ( not the children) just the outbreak and all parents to check their kiddies hair..[sm=soapbox.gif]

thank you ... I'll go now..( on behalf of my friend)

frustrating isnt it![:@]

Well sent son off to school today, and fingers crossed he should be ok because I had his head shaved at the weekend;)

cazwix, do you get the shampoo at the chemists, or is it an internet job? I need to be prepared just incase my daughter catches them, it wont be so easy to get them out of her hair![&:]

RE: Bring back the nit nurse!!!!

I found the best cure was the good old nit comb, no chemicals, just conditioner left in and a thorough trawl through. wipe conb off on a tissue.

Quite tricky with long curly hair, but it did work. Strangely satisfying too, finding the little blighters :). If you do this every couple of days it h kills them all off before they can lay any eggs.

I let them know at school if I found them and they put a note out to parents to check their own kids. (of course ignored by some).

RE: Bring back the nit nurse!!!!

OMG I have exactly the same problem.

My daughters friend at school was passing them on to her.

My daughter came home and said that she saw loads of eggs in her friends hair......the frustrating thing is that this little girls mom NEVER ties her hair up for school[:@][:@]

I spoke to the headmistress and she said that all she can do is send out letters (which like you say, does nothing if the parents dont bother reading/acting.

She also said that years ago they used to have the nit nurse line all of the children up and check their hair-but sadly, now, that is classed as abuse??!!!

I agree, Jan-There is something so satisfying about catching one and squishing it between your nails and hearing that 'click'[:@]

I usually use conditioner and a tooth comb, but when it got so frequent (I was having to do it every evening-took 2 hours[:@]) I used a 'natural' liquid called 'praneem'

The smell lasted in her hair for about a week (it was nice tho!) and I think that this detered the nits from having another bash.

I ALWAYS put hairspray on her hair now (A tip from nurse Julie!)

You could get a non-scented hairspray and put a tiny bit on his hair??

Tx

Hi Trinity,

Yes, I had heard that the 'Nitty Norahs' had disappeared from schools on the grounds of 'abuse.' It is these PC teachers, not the kids. The 'Norahs' were nice, I enjoyed having my hair played with (like Donna.) I never had them.

When my son was barely a baby, he caught headlice from one of the other kids in the nursery. He was scratching his head before I was told about the lice outbreak in the nursery, nits and lice never occured to me that that was the reason for Brian's scratching....! I used conditioner and the nit comb and combed them out. I did have to wash his hair in 'Derbac' at the start, to kill off the lice and nits. I was vigilant beyond all reason after that, and treated his hair once a week.

I have seen schoolgirls and boys on the bus with heads full of nits. These aren't young children either, they're all teenagers. I remember when the 'Nitty Norah' came one day and saw a girl (Paula Bates) with her hair done up in plaits. She was told, 'Undo that hair and comb it out! Lice breed in hair like that!' Oo!

Nowadays, these lice have become so resistant to conventional treatment that they have developed an immunity. So we don't have just lice, we have 'superlice' infesting our kids' hair.

>scratch!<

Love,
Patsy.

*scratch scratch*[:@]

Great tip Trinity, cheers!
I cant believe it, abuse??? what is going on? IMHO the little girl whos infestation is so bad that clumps of her hair have been scratched away is being abused[:@] I dont class having your hair gently parted for five minutes by a lady in a sparkling white coat abuse......Have THEY gone insane????
OOO it makes my blood boil[:@]
Apart from that *touches wood* I havnt found any of the little critters;)

Dear Donna,

I hope you have got rid of the little pests.

Yes, Trinity's right. The 'Nitty Norahs' were discarded a few years ago, when outcries of 'abuse' were thrown at them. Some people regarded having their kids' hair examined for lice and nits to be some sort of scandal, and dressed it up as 'abuse.' So now we have schools full of kids with headlice and nobody to watch for them. It's the children who suffer, as you say. Like you, I have seen kids cry with the pain of scratching and itching, with their hair in clumps. What's that if it's not abuse?

Ggrrr!

Love,
Patsy.

Another nastier side to nits is that children can get Impetigo from all the scratching. Nits and Impetigo often go together.

hi jan i agree with you.i have 4 girls all there hair is down there back..i shompoo and condition there hair.but while the condition is still on go thru it with a fine tooth comb..i put a pony in each of there hair then a plait..if other mothers DID THERE KIDS HAIR we wouldnt have a nit problem.and the teachers do look in kids hair without touching them.then a letter is given to the parents.i always use TEA TREE CONDITION.nits are the most disgusting thing going..how any mum can let there kids hair get out of conrol i will never know.ive been to school a ew times.and demanded the girls be moved from the kids with nits.and the teacher does move them.but kids play together..they cant bring back the nit nurse..it isnt allowed no more..id say when they start high school there heads arecleaner the eldest girl is nit free now.she started high school in sept.. love kath,
