Hi All,

My niece was diagnosed with arthritis in one knee four years ago at the age of 4, now at the huge age of 8 the poor little mite is still having 1 or 2 flare ups in her knee a year, which can last for a couple of months. The movement of her knee is restricted by the swelling and of course the pain makes her want to keep it still.

What or who would be the best action to take to, most importantly, to try to find the underlying cause and then possible treatments.

c'mon guys, all ideas welcome.......... the family are on a mission to gain as much information and try all that we possibly can.

Honeybee x

mmmm firstly make sure her fluid intake of water is sufficient.......fizzy drinks tea and coffee out oil the joints..........plenty of oily fish in the diet and im sure ther is loads info around about the right fruits and veg to eat to minimise the flare ups. As an aromatherapist i would suggest using essential oils in a compress on the knee when the knee flares up again, children of 8 can tolerate most essential oils but without knowing your neice and any other issues chamomile roman and lavender spring to mind although there are others these are analgesic and anti inflammitory whilst being in the safe zone for those who are not used to using oils at home or under the guidance of an aromatherapist hope this helps a little Jane

I would advise that you look into NAET and check out the Allergy and Arthritis forums.

When someone is prone to, then it's not usually confined to the joints and there are much wider implications on other systems. Young children respond particularly well to NAET, as they haven't had such a long time to acquire hypersenstivities & allergies, although some may be inherited from either or both parents.

Not moving her knee's will only allow the inflammation to build up in the area making it worse and anti-inflammatories will simply block the inflammatory process that is an essential part of the healing process. Also, if it is due to sensitivities, then there's a higher risk of them irritating stomach & gut.

Hot & cold compresses and keeping moving as best she can in the meantime may ease it a little, but may be tricky to convince someone so young that this is a good idea.

And.

Hi Andrew,

Of course.....NAET......why didn't I think of that? Funny how you don't think with the same level headed detachment when your emotionally involved with that person.....well I don't anyway.
I will forward your reply on to Loy (my sister) in Arizona and hopefully she will be able to find a practitioner not too far away.
I'll let you know how she gets on.

Thanks again Andrew and hope you are keeping well.

I am well, thanks.

The US practitioner database is here -

Oh and all my old school friends call me Loy - long story, that's sadly disappointing. 😀

whatever treatment yr sister chooses it would be worth doing all she can to boost her daughter's immune system as much as possible as it is obviously compromised. personally, i would also recommend systemic kinesiology if she can find a good practitioner.

No probs - you know where we are if you or they want to talk about it & there's lots of blurb on our own site. Other than course tutors we don't don't actually know any NAET practitioners in the US, so unable to help on that front, but happy to try and answer any Q's.

I've started to throw together a dedicated NAET website, but other priorities have come up, like the council building works on the Centre's door step. Have you spoken to Candie recently, cos it nearly all went peely wally this week. [:o]

The name, well like I say - sadly disappointing, but if you're offering to buy the drinks, then you might weedle it out of me. 😀

Hi Andrew,

Loy has read through all of the replies to my posting and she has already found a few NAET practitioners in the district.........................She has read up on NAET and finds the concept intriguing and worth a try. She takes Phoebe (with the knee) to the rhuematologist on Monday for she want's to have an updated account of whats going on before she makes an appointment with a NAET practitioner.

AAAAhhhhhhhhh!!!!!! yes heard about those lovely guys from the council............so sweet.........you just gotta love 'em. In fact I thought that the phone cable connection between Neston and Southport was about to melt in reaction to Candies ravings about them.
Look on the positive side.............you never know, you may end up with all those workmen queuing up for osteopathy and massage for their bad backs after the work is complete.

Thanks for the offer of help and advice........................its much appreciated.
Next time i'm over at Candies maybe we could all have lunch and we'll cover the "LOY" thing then.

On the surface NAET seems to be ridiculously simple, but the implications are huge, so I hope they go with it & stick with it til problem is resolved. As I said, with someone so young, then shouldn't be too long.

Re. Council strife - we're pulling all the stops out to make this work to our advantage. As they claim to have no money to compensate for the inconvenience, so we've got permission to put up more signs, etc. Also got local councilor involvd, but you probably know that.

I think I nealy got sacked as well, but that's one for another day.
