Hi everybody,
I don't know if any mum had a similar problem. My little boy (4) keeps going for a wee very often. He drinks a normal amount of liquid, nothing different then usual. I was a bit conserned that it was an infection or some kind of complication after a flue he had a couple of months ago.
I took him to a doctor, she took a urine sample and said that the result would come back in 8 days. Meanwhile she has prescribed... yes, same old antibiotics. I was trying to resist it, but she was really pushy and seemed to be very confident that it was an infection. We had a course of anibs but the results have come back all clear. And the problem is still there. It seems to be that he is not going too often for a wile and then in some periods of time, especially in the evening he just goes 3 or 4 times in a row. And once he said that he felt like he wanted to go but nothing was coming out. And there are periods when he is fine. He doesn't wet the bed at night and he isn't in pain or anything. What can it be? And what do I do? It's very difficult with little ones to understand if its normal or not. Could it be a phase they are going throuhg or pshycological? Or may be a physical problem?
Do I need to go and see other specialists?
Your advice is much appreciated.
thank you
Tanita
RE: advice for my little boy, please...
Tanita, if your little boy is still having problems then I think you need to take him back to your GP and ask him/her to run another urine test.
Sometimes the testing procedures don't always show the correct results due to lots of reasons.
Also his temperature should be checked regularly to make sure there's no fever (>38 degrees)
Your doctor should eliminate any other cause if it's not a urine infection...so ask lots of questions.
Hope your little boy gets better soon

RE: advice for my little boy, please...
Hello Tanita,
I am sorry to hear that your little boy is having 'waterworks' problems. I know that bouts of 'flu can trigger off urinary infections, since my mum had one after her 'flu at Xmas.
Yes, I would echo Astra's advice and take your son back to the GP. There is obviously a problem there that needs to be sorted out. I am reminded of a friend of mine who kept being given antibiotics for a urinary infection, only to visit a locum purely by chance, when it refused to go. The locum doctor carried out extensive tests and discovered that her problem was indeed caused by a bacterial infection, but she had been prescribed the wrong drugs. The locum prescribed different drugs and the problem cleared up.
Good luck to you and your son, Tanita.
Love, Patsy.

RE: advice for my little boy, please...
thank you Astra and Songstress. I've decided I'll monitor him for a wile, because sometimes he seems to be absolutely fine and then a bit later in a day he goes quite often. I am thinking if it is an infection would he be in some kind of discumfort or pain, or going all the time, 24 hours a day? If it does persist, of cause, I'll take him to Gp. Mind you I have no trust in my GP, but can't find anyone better in the area...

Tanita
Just a thought. Is your little boy dry at night? I was wondering if he was concerned about wetting the bed or his nappy at night and therefore was going more often later in the day in his desire to keep his bladder empty.

RE: advice for my little boy, please...
hiya Tanita.
I had the same experience when Meg was 4. She used to go to morning nursery and my dad used to pick her up for me and take her back to his house while i was at college. the one day i got to my dads and he said that altogether she had been to the loo 12 times!!! It was only 2.15!!!
I asked the teacher to keep an eye on her and she reported the same frequency. She said sometimes she was only trickling tho. I asked meg and she wasnt in any pain although she said that sometimes she thought that she wanted to got but couldnt.
She had urine test twice at the docs and she was checked over and they couldnt find anything wrong.
Eventually she was refered to the hospital. The Dr. there was a lovely old lady. She checked megs abdomen and said everything seemed fine. Whilst Meg was distracted she told us that it was psychological. She said that it could be something as simple as Meg seeing someone in her class wet themselves and becoming paranoid that she would do the same.
She advised us to ignore it and to tell the teachers to ignore it and see what happens.
The following day I had to take her to the eye infirmary. We left there at 10.45 and both used the toilet before we left. We caught the bus into town and she started saying 'I want a wee'. I kept on putting her off by saying things like 'yeah we'll go in a minute' and 'lets hav a look in the early learning centre!'. Whilst walking through town she asked if we could go to the library and pick some books, so we did. When we came out of the library it was raining so I phoned Paul and asked him to pick us up. We had to wait for him and by the time we got home it was 2 oclock!
The thing is that she forgot all about the loo after a while and never even wait to the loo when we got home!!!
It was just the fear of having an accident I think. She never had the problem again!!!.. All that worrying!
Bless 'em!!

Trinityx, yes, this is what I thought. Thank you for desctibing your experience. It seems to me any time my little one passes the toilet he thinks that he has to go. It's just in his mind.... I'll try and use your technique to stop him doing it. I am jus so cross that I let him have those antib-s....

My eldest boy is now 8 and still does this every so often, especailly in a strange place. Every new place we go he has to 'check out the toilet'. I don't worry about it as he is fine at home, and also when he is busy.

Dear Tanita
Well I would take him to a health kinesiologist so that she can test him to see whether it is physical, mental or emotional and then test for the root cause.

RE: advice for my little boy, please...
Thank you Kim, I found one kinesiologist close to where I live. I shall call her tomorrowm and we'll go and see her.
He is still doing it. I think I've found the origins of the problem. Once at school he was outside and he wanted a wee, but by the time he got there he's wet himself a little bit. He still remembers it, cause he's never wet himself ever since he was potty trained. I think it might have cause the problem. Anyway, I hope kniesiologist will help to sort it out. I am trying to persuade him that he doesn't need to go so often, but it doesn't work.

Good Luck T
Saw this post a few days ago, but sometimes to takes that long for my things to ferment in my subconscience. Hope your son is helped with AK, but will offer my thoughts anyhow.
The bladder wall is a muscle, so if we're 'stressed' or anxious, then the associated hormones cause it to contract. Hence the need to pee. [&:]
So it sounds like your son is somewhat apprehensive about this whole 'school thing', which is quite understandable, when you put yourself in their position. [:o]
I hope the treatment sorts it.
