Hi, I haven't been on the boards for a while but hope you don't mind me asking for some advice tonight. I have been to the doctors twice in the past month over a pain in my right breast. He couldn't feel a lump the first visit but isn't sure now. Both breasts are sore in exactly the same spot (and I can feel the same tiny lump-a duct?) on both but the one on the right is very very painful.

Doctor said today that he still can't feel a lump but the more he tries, the less sure of himself he becomes. So he's referred me to the local breast clinic. He said I'll get an appointment through in 3-4 weeks and it could be anything from 3to 10 weeks after that for the appointment. I am quite frightened and haven't got a clue how I'm going to cope with the waiting-3 weeks alone seems an age. I know I shouldnt but I'm already stressing about how we'll cope financially if I have to stop work for a bit...and if I'm honest, I'm in a lot of pain and the thought of waiting 3 weeks for some relief is agonising. How do you cope with the waiting and not let the fear take you over?
Sorry to ramble

RE: Referral to breast clinic

I am so sorry to hear this Eliana. I know it is difficult but try to remain calm and remember that most lumps are perfecty benign. I too found a lump in one of my breasts a few years back, and was referred to my local breast clinic. The Doctor there was very helpful and sympathetic, taking the time to examine me and explain what was happening at every stage. It helped that my partner came with me to offer help and support. The waiting was the worst, especially as the mammogram machine broke down, and we had to wait hours for it to be fixed. His prescence though made it a lot easier to cope with. In the end I was lucky, itturned out to be nothing more than fatty tissue, as I hope is also yours.

You have done the right thing in making the appointment though, as it the only way to put your mind at complete rest. Is there a partner or friend who can come with you perhaps also, and offer their support. It really does make a big difference.

RE: Referral to breast clinic

Thanks both

Stormdeva-haven't receieved your pm but laptop is playing up a bit...

I 'm feeling a little less stressed today and trying to overcometiredness anda cold to throw myself back into work. Managed to forget about it for an hour last night and had a great laugh with my partner over something sillywhich helped massively. I cannot deny that I have a really bad gut feeling about this, but I'm made of strong stuff so we'll just have to wait and see.

Pain is still v bad but I discovered deep freeze gel last night and that is a godsend!

Sorry to have whinged. I know that the only way I willput my mind at ease is if I get all the tests done (I'd have felt awful if I'd come away from the doctors yesterday with another "wait and see how you feel in a month")...ithe reality is just scary.

Love, warmth and light to all those in need of it at this time[sm=hug.gif]

RE: Referral to breast clinic

Well, I got a call on Friday to say that the clinic could fit me in on Wednesday so I'll be there at 11. My lovely boyfriend has taken the day off to come with me so will be holding my hand.

Fingers crossed and love and hugs to anyone else going through this at the moment[sm=1kis.gif]
