RE: Reason for back pains, ishias, disc problems, foot pains, headaches,...

Thanks for that Expatient,

I have had a disfunctional SI joint since I can remember and have been told my many 'learned people' that the SI joint does not move at all!!!! Well my pains tell me different!

I spent 8 months of last year in bed 'litterally' unable to even sit up at times to eat, my Husband had to care for me all of the time. Yet they still couldn't find out what it was. Evenwhen I told them what it was, I was told it wasn't possible! I spent many trips to doctors, surgeons, Chiropractors, Osteopaths, Physio's etc etc & I won't even mention the amount of money I spent on it all! Different painkillers, muscle relaxers, even2 epidurals! You name it, theygave it to me.The final straw came when I saw 'my last hope' a surgeon who was supposed to be a miracle worker???? After explaining my problem to him, he promptly offered me surgery to fuse my discs in my L5/S1 area (I have a small rupture) every doc I saw focused on this area as it was the only thing that showed up on an MRI! I told him I couldn't see how this would fix the problem of the Sacroilliac joint, he replied "Well there's nothing I can do about that" He wouldn't even acknowledge that it could cause my pain & instability. I left in tears thinking that that was how I had to live my life. I refused the surgery ( I certainly wasn't going to let them lose cutting my back open when they weren't even sure of the problem) and started my search for an alternative approach.

I am very nearly fixed now due to a number of things, firstly I found an fantastic Doctor/Osteopath who practises Prolotherapy. It's almost unheard of but for me it was amazing. Check out [link= http://www.drbrianpattinson.co.uk ]www.drbrianpattinson.co.uk[/link] it involves injecting the ligament right into the joints to strenghten them. Once these ligaments become lax (as they do with us) they automatically want to go back to the position they are used to (being out of alignment), therefore you need an 'irritant' to stimulate them into action again. They can be quite expensive but when your in as much pain as we are you do it! Some insurance companies will pay for it as long as you don't tell them 'exactly' what the injections are as this is not an 'authorised' treatment like Acupunture etc. As he's also an osteopath he realigns you first to ensure the muscles are in the right position. I felt an immediate effect a few days after my first injection. I won't lie, it was very painful (for me anyway) and I did have a very odd reaction but I usually do but all of it was worth it! I was up and about within weeks, not fixed but out of bed and able to look after myself. I had a couple more injections and was 'very nearly' back to my old self. Once the pain goes, the depression & lack of energy goes too. It gave me my 'fight' back :).

I was strong enough to start yoga (I had tred physio, exercises etc but couldn't keep my back stable long enough to feel an effect). I had a few sessions of Thai Yoga Massage to start me off. I had a fabulous teacher who treated me at home. This isn't a normal relaxing massage, it was almost like having physio but somebody holding & manipulating you the whole time so no pressure is on your joints or muscles. I am now strong enough to do real sessions.

Acupuncture is FANTASTIC at relieving pain!

I have more recently discovered a fantastic osteopath who has an amazing 'sense' & holistic approach. He actually realigns the WHOLE body to straighten any little imbalances that may (& usually do) happen in the rest of your spine. He also does a full check up, blood pressure etc to check for underlying illnesses, Ultra sound & acupuncture. All as a whole treatment. He told me he could fix me in 3/4 sessions and (although extremely sceptical at the time) I have to say he has! Here's his details for anyone who lives near Crawley. He's well worth the trip even if you don't :).

Thanks for a great post - will definitely try the acupuncture - a lot of therapists here. If not, will try that place in Crawley when I come back on holiday.

My back started hurting over 2 weeks ago - the only time I'm not in pain is when I sleep. It's lower back pain, after a fall, and I'm finding it quite hard to struggle into work... normally, I've got loads of energy but not any more...

Thanks for the advice.

Hi,

Thanks for the complement :), I was bit worried my post was rather long. I can't recommend acupuncture enough for back pain, it also helps us relax & boost your sytem too. I only take Anadin for pain relief now & only rarely at that. I've tried all the heavy duty pain killers (some with a few trips to Hosp due to reactions), Muscle relaxants etc (even had Pethadine once) & now I would go straight to my acupuncturist.

I wanted to add that I also believethat there is a huge 'emotional' link to back problems. Indeed I think that applies to all dis-ease.You could read 'Louise Hay' "You can heal your Life", I recommend this book to everyone whowill listen ;).

With regard toLower back pain: according to Louise Hay "Fear of Money. Lack of Financial support" is the emotional trigger. It was true for me & I can honestly say I've yet to find an illness that she isn't right about. Once you find your emotional trigger you should find a lot of your symptoms & pains should start to release. I won't promise they will go completely as I had a few things to work on, e.g. guilt & self punishment issues (which I'm sure are ringing true for a few of you now ;)) but it sure as Heaven takes the sting out of it.

Sending lots of love & light

Some professionals will says it should not move and is often missed as a route cause to back and lower limb problems. Most biomechanical resources confirm there should be some movement in the SI joint - only a small amount mind you. I've had a few limb injuries in the past that have come down to a tight SI joint - some peoples move to much which I suppose is harder to fix than one that’s locked. If the pelvic joint is not working properly then it can put extra pressure on the lower back
You need to fins a specialist who looks at the overall picture rather than just focusing on one area

For me it was moving too much. Thats why the other one was stiff and had pain. And most cases it is like that: left sij is subluxated and pain and stiffnes is on right side.

Thought I would mention this about backache being emotional pain. I have suffered backache for years but never really thought about it except there must be something wrong with my back.
First I had a bad fall when I was 14 years of age, landing on the bottom of my spine so always assumed that was the reason for the pain though doctors keep telling me,it has nothing to do with that.
I was free of pain for several years until last year when I had a sudden bout of it 2 weeks after my husband's funeral. Suddenly,it started again this morning,a year nearly to the day of his funeral last year. Amazing.

Yes. Emotions, stress, health and many others have an influence on muscles and pain. When something is wrong the body tries to adapt. But sometimes when stress is too much the muscles get tight and pain comes. You are lucky if you have it mild and not so often. Millions of people have it chronical and continuously...

Yes finally found someone who identified that I have an over mobile SI joint and weakended ligaments. I've been blasting this out at the last few "professionals" I've been seeing and totally discounted saying my systoms can't come from this!. Found a physio in surrey who has had this problem for years so decided to study in depth about the problem. Does not think its actually that bad but just over mobile rather than really unstable. Has given me a SI joint support belt to wear to help take the load off the joint while the ligament recovers which was over strained after a recent manipulation (along with strengthening exercises for the supporting muscles). Wore it to bed last night and felt great this morning as I usually inflame the joint when I twist at night. Heres a sight with info about the problem
