Well what can i say. I can feel my leg after so long.
Like others have said, im taking things slowly at the moment. Im in no pain apart from the incision site. Covered in staples and the thought if having these out terrifies me, although once they are out my recovery can improve.

I had surgery on thursday evening. I was admitted at half 7 on the day having been told not to eat or drink after midnight and being a lover of food was hard going.

I had a rather fetching gown on open to the elements, ad whist this was on, i felt like all my leg pain had vanished and i didnt need surgery. But ten i realised my leg still wouldnt do what i wanted it to.

Went down for surgery, i remember the nurse putting the canula in my hand and anther nurse putting a mask over my face. Then nothing. I woke up back on the ward, flexing my leg telling the nurse i was a jedi in a star wars film. She was in tears laughing at me.

I was relatively ok after my op, i did a walk to the toilet and was ok although felt a bit sickly but ok.

I was sent home after completing the stairs test (up and down wth no help). It hurt coming up as it pulls on the wound.

Generally now 3 days and i feel fine. Its getting easier moving about and getting about up and down the stairs are easer too.

I did find however the frst time i released my bowels was an experience never to be had again. I'll let you all draw your own conclusions to that and what you could picture probably happened on that fateful trip.

So alls good writing at the moment. Im now on a massive healthy eating since my op, drinking more water than i have ever done and feel good. I have a lot of small steps before i learn to run again, but my aim is to pck up my golf clubs again and when that happens my life will be back.

Thanks for reading

Hi aitch

Glad all went well for you and hope your progress is good through to full recovery - oh, and great about the diet - so keep it up!

This is a very useful description of the process of having a back op for someone who wants to know - and several have asked in the past.

All the best

Hi,

I am pleased to hear everything went OK with your discectomy. As for the bowel movement, does straining make it likelier for you to prolapse.the disc again? Just curious because if I have a discectomy that would be a major fear. Can you have a bowel movement safely? Does it get easier?
