Hi,

Brief history: I had sciatic pain foe about a year. As a result I was not able to work. I became housebound and very unhappy.
My surgeon said if I was likely to see any natural improvdement in my condition it would have happened by now, so I had a discectomy.
I read these forums with great interest. The surgery was done around five weeks ago. The leg pain has gone but there is back pain and doing physio aggravates it.
I can walk more than I was able to, and my posture seems to be improving. My pelvia had shifted and I am working on that now. I read these forums and there were some discussion on posture. I have some valuable information to post, and it might help others.
At first, your posture only improves partially. As you become able to walk more, you will notice your body trying to take you closer to the center of your lower back. I guess itbfeels as if you are waiting for things to click in place. For me, they probably did at around week three. When you have this problem, your torso kind of twists and is pointing upwards in one direction. It looks very bad. However, I have found as the pelvis levels out, gradyally you can try and straighten out. Before each stage, there is the process of stretching. This leads to some soreness for a few days but you have to try and maintain the posture. Following the soreness you start to straighten out. Other muscles then get stretched and while you wait for functional strength to return, they do initially get sore and tired. During the sore and tired phase your body will often look bad and you will revert to the bad posture, but once strength is restored, you can keep going. I think I am gradually gettin there. A lot of work is left though, but I hope to write again so I can relat my experiences so they can help other users. There is not a lot of information on how posture returns to normal so maybe some users will find my thoughts useful. The important thing is not to give up.
