hi my name is mike and i was diagnosed with asbergers last april after having to go privately and to be told i was a classic case which the nhs failed to see for 25 years. school was a nightmare college was worse and now i live in an old peoples home because my social worker is a waste of space, are there any groups in cheshire for people with autism or asbergers to go to as at this time my life consists of eating sleeping and using my laptop to play games online. i have no confidence about going out anywhere and i know im different from nearly everyone else. the way i see it is thast people who suffer from autism usually dont notice that they are treated differently but those with asbergers notice and if they are like me then will feel outcast and eventually become uninterested in anything that does not make them comfortable. or am i the only one who feels like this. i need to know about the groups mainyl for my mother who is really stressed about the lack of help i get. as for myself i have already given up hope of ever having any help from the nhs, social services and the populace in general.

Hi Mike and welcome to Healthypages.

I'm not in Cheshire and I'm not familiar with Autistic Spectrum Disorders from any personal experience, but I took a quick look on the web and found:

Maybe they will be able to offer you what you are looking for, or if not, they may be able to advise on somewhere local that can.

Hope that helps.

Hello Whiteicefire

Welcome to HP. I don't have any answers for you I'm afraid and the only person I know with any experience is in Leeds. It must be tremendously frustrating for you and I do hope you find the support you need.

While you are living where you are, you wouldn't consider writing a story of your experiences with a possible view to publication sometime in the future? It might also help to show those who are being so very unhelpful what has happened. Just a thought.

Sending you Love and Light

There are various online sites with resources etc. For example
This is the National AutisTIC Association

But as this is an alternative health website, it's only fair to mention an alternative organisation, the National AutisM Association

Whilst the medical view is usually that Asperger's is not curable, nevertheless IMHO there can be many stresses and strains on the human system that can compound the problems of any sufferer of any disease and make things worse. Rather than look at the things that can't be changed (eg genes), how about look at the influences on health that can be changed - they may be a large percentage of the problem.

There's also an award-winning book called 'Parallel Play' by a man who discovered in his 40s that he was an 'Aspie'. He explains how he came to realise he did not see the world the same way as everybody else, and how he turned his situation to his advantage. The first chapter is reproduced

I'll leave it at that. Good luck for the future 🙂

Thank you for posting this link kvdp. It's a fascinating read - a window on to another aspect of humanity that few of us are aware of. I'll have to try and get the book.

Wishing you well whiteicefire.

Hi mike, Sorry to hear of your issues with lack of support. If it helps I gave up on the NHS etc years ago.. really the best bet is to find treatment naturally if that's what you are looking for.. Homeopathy, Bowen (supposed to be particularly good for autism related issues), Acupuncture? If I were you I would look elsewhere and try not to worry what other people think about you, that won't get you anywhere. Just discover your goals and follow them.. you can't go wrong with that 🙂

Hi Mike,
I hope you come back to visit us. 🙂

Autism and Aspergers is my 'expertise' and right now you need practical help and advice.

now i live in an old peoples home because my social worker is a waste of space

I am always appalled when I hear this, but your story isn't unique, there are so many failings in the system.

It is okay to say you are unhappy with your social worker and your living arrangements.

You could contact Independent Advocacy (Central Cheshire)

There are plenty of things social services could do to help you.

Support For Independent Living in Cheshire.

ASD friendly is a lovely online group.

Best of luck.

Plan for your own future

H Mike - I was concerned to read your post.
You are an individual with the same needs and rights anyone else. You can take control of your life in the same way as anyone else. Have you thought about what you want to have in your life? Where you do want to live, how you want to live? where you would like to work?

Your life is in your own hands

What to you want to have in your life in three years time from now?
How would you know that you had it?
What are you going to do about it now?

These are the things your social worker should be helping you with.

If they are not helping you properly tell ten you want to speak to a solicitor who can use the law to help you get what you want.
