Hi . I am a male dairy farmer approaching the age of sixty in a few months , and apart from dodging on here from time to time ,have not posted very much!!
Would love to hear some of your thoughts , should you have the patience to humour me for a minute or 2 !!:)
It would be fair to say I am a couple of stone overweight and I work too much ,(every day) dont get away on holiday much either and can be generally stressed lol
Have had a few yrs of feeling bloated , stomach doscomfort (but bowel habits regular )
Tried messing with my diet (cutting out milk , ha ,not good for a cowman!!) and that has helped me lose a bit of weight ,(now down to 14 and a half stone )
I have always had joint pain in the odd one of my fingers , and a bit of foot pain , plus feet feeling cold in winter all the time (suspected flat feet at one time) but this summer I had the most painful feet ,that ached and in wellies ,almost felt hot !!
I could hardly walk as the metatarsal area of both feet was tender !!
Have not been to doctors ,but suspected rheumatism myself. (after a friends advice)
At that time also , I was a beggar for Marmite under my scrambled egg on toast ,lashings of it !!
, And I enjoy a few pints (maybe 3 ) of real ale ,when crown green bowling, which ended in Oct.
So in the last few weeks have cut out the Marmite and had no real ale ,only a very odd can of lager ,and the odd glass of dry cider .
Also had a few Ibruprofen tablets when at my worst.
My hands are free of any pain now ,and my feet are better than they have been for a long time , although I had a couple of pints of ale 2 nights ago and immediately next morning my toe area felt a bit buzzy ,tingly even .
Coincidence maybe?
I read about the links of yeast , candida , arthritis , and I do wonder if diet and particularly yeast , have a big effect on my health ??
Sorry folks , I have ignored my doctor , told you my symptoms then diagnosed myself too !!!

Hello bigbert
There is no harm in doctoring yourself, as long as you have yourself looked over by GP to rule out any nasties lurking in the dark
There are as many opinions as people on this planet. Gluten, dairy, meat free, allergies, whreat intolerant....the list is getting bigger by the day.

Try the ale experiment once or twice and see if that tingling sensation recurs. Then you will know to avoid it altogether or have in lesser amounts...whichever feels right

I highly recommend high dose vitamin c for arthritis. Google it.

Thank you jnani !!

Vitamin C is excreted by the body in high doses ,is it not ? We cannot physically take it in and we wee it out??
I do love an orange before my breakfast 🙂

That is true to an extent.
As you grow old the need for vitamin c is increased manifold. If there is a condition body is trying to find balance with it requires tons more vit c.
An orange is a good idea, but doubt if it will stave off arthritis..
Mega dosing is the idea. I have personal experience vit c clearing arthritis in a few months.

Owing to modern harvesting, storage and preservation, there is a lot less Vit C in the average orange than there used to be.

Well folks , I have ordered some 1000 mg Vit C tablets from Simply Supplements and they are chewable!!
Big white tablets with a centre break mark ,so I duely popped one in mouth and chewed it.
Cue a teeth full of really sweet stuff that took ages to get rid of!!
So the next day ,I decided to let one dissolve in the mouth ,and it burnt my tongue and throat 😮
Main ingredient Ascorbic acid !!
Not a good idea:D
Anyway , I now swallow them whole with plenty of food !!
I definately feel my gouty feeling in my feet is better for keeping off the drink!!
Bugger , I like a drink or 2

Thanks for updating us, That's lovely to hear.
I tend to give vit c tablets a swerve and opt for powder.
There are sweeteners, binding agents and plenty other muck in them. Bad for teeth and the rest of ra ra...Ascorbic acid is the vit c. So have it in powder form, no messing! You can have tons more 1/2tsp or 1/4tsp several times a day....just swallow with water...there is nothing better for arthritis.

Life is not worth living if we have to keep worrying about what we can't eat and drink...so don't go easy on booze! have a lovely Christmas!
Stay fit and more importantly happy!

There's a lot of research to suggest that vitamin supplements don't do any good - and quite a bit to suggest they do harm.

I don't think we're designed to take vitamins and minerals but also appreciate that the quality of food isn't as wholesome as it was years ago. I do take some magnesium and if I do take the odd vitamin, I get it in capsule form and use half the contents and only for a few days/weeks at the most. Also I find I tolerate vitamins and supplements less as I get older. I've recently got some vit B12 in cream form and I rub it into my wrists every day and suits me really well. My energy has increased.

Well , 3 weeks or so in to my new regime , I have to admit to feeling better that I have for a long time!! Not really sure if its the Vit C ,or deliberatly trying to avoid yeast too!
I have had swelling in the odd finger/thumb joint for a fair few yrs , and had a lot of that 2- 3 months ago.
Its all gone away , although a few of my joints are a bit bigger than they should be !!
Feet 95% , but they do get a bit hot when I am in the house . No pain much
Also , I have to admit to taking a cocktail on supplements ,first thing in the morning with a very light breakfast!
I take 2 Odourless Garlic ,(immune system ) a Glucosamine tablet , a Cod liver oil , (joints)2 probiotic , 2 vit D3 ,one 1000 mg Vit C , and a Zinc tablet too ( immune sys)
(I had all of those on the shelf already!!)

Bonkers I know , but the rest of the family have all had a horrible cold in the last 10 days and yours truely has not succumbed yet:p

May I suggest you check out this site? There is a lot of science behind it - and Dr Andrew Weil is a medical doctor - so this is not one of those bogus sites that are so common o the internet sadly.....and he is not a quack - far from it.

Well well well...your body is responding beautifully to whatever you are doing. Now just enjoy being healthy and it will keep moving in that direction.
Give quacks and experts both a swerve. There is very thin line between the two. Listen to your own testimony. Who can know your own circumstance better than you?
Health is a very personal matter. If it is not broke don't fix it

Thanks jnani :).
I still find it amazing that diet can have such a big effect on arthritis
I hopefully have finally seemed to cure my aching feet too.
Being a Wellie wearer for 6 to 8 hrs a day , does not help . I was having less foot pain , but my feet still felt achey and cold in the day , and when I was in the house and not wearing them !

I had made my own insoles out of foam matting(Farmers , hey !! :D) but had noticed that around the bottom of the insoles ,(when removed )they were very damp.
Not a wellie leak or leaks , but sweat, over a few days or so.
So now I use absorbant paper , changed each day ,under the insoles ,to keep the boots 100% dry at all times and the difference has been amazing! Toasty feet
Damp draws the cold and also I believe it will make any arthritis worse !!

Thanks everyone:cool:

Just when you think its going right!!
Last Friday I treated the rest of my cold ridden family , to deluxe fish and chips !!
We get them locally from a restaurant type outlet ,that always takes about 20 mins to cook the fish ,so I ,in the past ,always enjoyed a half (or pint) of Stella Artois ! Glug.
Friday I had a half ,(yes , silly I know:oops: ) just to relax with and next morning my feet had that buzz in the toes , like I had the last time I drunk beer, and the bigger joints in my fingers were a tad painful. Had a couple of days with my feet feeling hot ,especially in the toe area , and much hotter than is normal for me.
Tuesday , and having shunned alcohol just about , my toes are a bit cooler today (Ihad 400 mg Ibruprofen last night too )

Theres the thing , I am more inclined to feel its a gouty type thing , as why does it always affect all my fingers and toes , feeling hotter and a bit redder than usual?? Wondered if the last 2 weeks of Christmas excess could be a culprit .
I have just read the Gout thread below , and although I dont have classic gout , could it be a form of that ?
I have some cherry extract capsules on order , as I believe its excellent for Gout .

I also dont take more than one 1000mg tablet Vit C in a day , so might just try another at night with food , until the cherry tabs arrive !!
Thanks for humouring an idiot:)

Two approaches two outcomes. Choose the one that suits you best. Why ask anybody?
You are the best observer and judge of how you feel when you include or exclude certain things. Why complicate? Gout is just a name...why pigeonhole yourself? Then you will end up carrying the dead corpse of 'gout' on your shoulders.

Take it easy and keep it simple....then it stays that way
(I love people who can call themselve fools and idiots...they are anything but that)

Gosh ,spot the tumbleweed!!
I have since been to the doctors . Had blood test and urine sample tested ,all ok.
I was still struggling with hot feet ,especially later on in the day , and some pain in the ball of my right foot ,and a bit less in the left.
He tells me my rating for gout was 300 ?? ,(is the normal range 200 to 400 ,and above 400 is high for uric acid?)In the middle ,he said.
So apart from a bit of slightly higher colesterol fromthe last time I was tested , all ok.
I now rub my feet /toes /metatarsals , with Voltarol gel ,twice or 3 times a day , have been on Naproxen for a week or more ,but now stopped . Getting there ,less pain in feet an less hot spells in my feet .
I have stayed off beer , and have the odd cider . It suits me ,and as I dont particularly get hooked on it , I dont over indulge lol
Bowling season is here and Spring ,so heres hoping my feet have finally settled down 🙂
Thanks everyone
