Reactive Arthritis ??

I have just recovered from a truly awful bout of food poisening. The 2-hourly diorrhea lasted for 11 days before the wonderful NHS diagnosed the bug and I was handed the correct pills to kill the blighters. I lost a stone in weight and was certainly very dehydrated most of the time.
I actually thought I was going to die but that's another story....

Anyhow, just as I made my recovery from the exhausting runs I awoke with a seized left shoulder and a swollen left knee. The pain over the following few days was simply unbearable and I lived on pain-killers.

Now I had an arthroscopy on the other knee last year (torn meniscus) and immediately thought it was the same thing. However, the doctor felt this all a bit suspiscious and coincidental and prefers the theory that the bug (campylobacter) had set up reactive arthritis. Blood tests are inconclusive. The anti-inflam pills prescribed have reduced the swelling to almost normal and I can walk a little further every day. The shoulder too is almost normal apart from a stinging ache from time to time.

Anyone had any experience of this type of arthritis? When can I start tennis, swimming, Tai Chi, Lawn Mowing, dog walking - start my life again?
Will it recur?

Any advice very welcome,
M

There are some theories that Arthritis has an autoimmune system link. Go see your doctor get a proper diagnosis and ask them as a first step.

The answer to will it reoccur is...... in theory given enough time.... yes is will reoccur.

Nearly back to normal now. It's been 6 weeks and the swelling has gone although the knee still feels very unsteady. Maybe another couple of weeks will do it. The web suggests this may well keep on recurring which is a dismal prospect. Almost wasted the summer already.
Answer to the above.... both reactive and rheumatoid arthritis are imune system generated.
Best to all,
M

reactive arthritis

Often painful joints can be greatly relieved with having a colonic irrigation session. Toxins in our body acumulate and if they are not able to be excreted successfully they build up and then cause aches and pains in the body. A few sessions (if you have never had colonics) will be required.

If you have current aches and pains then bromelain (the enzyme from pineapple- the central core part) will aid in reducing inflammation and also the pain.

Probiotics also will help to clear out toxins in the body and they are best taken in a liquid form. Taken morning and evening, 30mins prior to food will be just fine. The immune system is dependent on gut health, hence probiotics being important.

Eating whilst sitting down, only. Relaxing and really taking the time to eat, notice tastes and flavours will aid your stress levels and thus aid nutrient absorbtion and elimination. Even a glass of wine, if it relaxes you?

Breathe...

All the best
Joanna
