RE: osteo arthritis asking for help

Hi PJ,

To be honest theres no miracle cure (trust me ive spent 2 years looking for it)[&o][:'(]
However there are things that are meant to help.

First does this women seen a rheumatologist regularly? every 3 months, if not then she should be! :eek:Personally i find mine useless but it is important that she is checked regularly, also does she get regular blood tests taken to check for the amount of inflammation in the body? Also is she on any anti inflammatory drugs....if you can find one that works (still working that one too!!) then they will reduce the inflammation which will reduce the stiffness and pain slightly

There are 1000s of ''natural'' tablets out there even just good old cod-liver oil but to be perfectly honest when her arthritis is that bad they wont help.[&o]
And i know i will prob be yelled at by someone for saying this lol
A few aches and pains yes 😀 arthritis...no.:( Ive tried 100s and its a complete waste of money, as i was also told last time by 2 rheumatologists.[>:]

Exercise, I know how hard it is but once u can get into it it does help. Early this year i spent 3 weeks in a rheumatology unit
(NEVER AGAIN!! LOL) But all the exercise did help and when i get home i kept it up, and it really did ease the pain and stiffness. If gentle exercise is too much water is great, maybe swimming even if she doesn't swim! The water helps to relax the joins and will ease the swelling, just moving around a little in the water will really help.:D

To be honest PJ at the moment i cant think of anything else,
But if i do i will let u know

best wishes
Fi

RE: osteo arthritis asking for help

Hiya PJ,:)

Not sure if u read my reply yet or not. I was saying no to all the ''natural cures'' im sure u have seen them online? - say goodbye to arthritis in 4 weeks, eat right nd wave goodbye to arthritis today etc etc...rubbish![:'(] The only thing that people think helps slightly is Glucosamine sulphate, its not very expenisive but im told by doctor ud have to stick with it about 4 or 5 months until ud feel any difference.

Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs) are meant to be important too, you find them in things like
Evening primrose, Borage or Starflower oil, some believe that in sufficient doses all help to boost immunity and reduce inflammation. As yet there isnt any proff of this and rheumatologists have said its a complete waste of money for people with arthritis but may help those who are just slightly stiff. EFAs are also found in oily fish products so she'd prob be cheaper and just as well off with a tin of tuna!!;)

there also accupunture (spelling?) not something ive had done for arthritis (though used it for headaches and really helped) Also something else i learnt in the rheumatology unit was never to sit more than 20 mins at a time. Not always possible i know and must admit i dont do it though prob should as i spent FAR too long on line and when i go to move in stuff as an old horse (no offence to horsery lovers lol)

can u imagine sitting in church and announcing to the minister you are just going to walk up and down a while but not to stop on your account!! [sm=rollaugh.gif][sm=rollaugh.gif]lol

Anyway PJ... im muttering now!! i hope some of this helps, i have also included a couple of links that u may find some advice for the lady at.[sm=bouncy.gif]

(the arthritis foundation) - you can read more about what supplements are meant to help here plus loads of other info and links

Good luck

Have heard accupunture good for arthritis, also I do have clients that benefit from gentle massage, also helps with any swelling, there are some oils that benefit but you would need to consult a qualified aromatherapist, jojoba however is a base oil and has anti-inflammatory properties - do a patch test first....
good luck

Hi pj,
I have read of cases where people with Osteoarthritis have benefited from a herbal prescription. Celery being one of quite a few herbs that can help reduce the inflammation.
Perhaps your client may be willing to see a herbalist.
Check out the web site for The National Institute of Medical Herbalists, if you want to find a herbalist close to home.

Hi,
I do agree that looking at and changing your diet is very important.
As well as the foods already mentioned by Jeanine, you may need to avoid potatoes and aubergine. I do believe that some sort of supplementation is vital. Some good advice has already been offered altho' i prefer glucosamine hydrochloride over the sulphate form.
A great way to exercise, which has many benefits, is rebounding. This is gentle bouncing on a small trampoline. Even the most infirm can manage and derive great benefit from this. I highly recommend you do a search for rebounding or look for Margaret Hawkins book "Bouncing for health". She was nearly disabled by the effects of chronic arthritis, but found her life transformed when she discovered rebounding..

RE: osteo arthritis asking for help

Hi PJ

I'm so sorry that you know of somebody that suffers with osteo arthritis. My own partner suffered with it BIG TIME. He was so bad he couldn't even pick up a spade.

Fortunately, thanks to Forever Living Products and a product called Forever Freedom (along with some arctic sea fish oil capsules), he no longer suffers and in August he erected approx. 70' of fencing, swinging a sledge hammer about!!!

I've sent you an email about this anyway so please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any problems finding info on FLP.

Good luck with it and best wishes to the lady concerned. Healing thoughts and strength on their way to her.

RE: osteo arthritis asking for help

hi everyone

i am so sorry not to have got back to you as you have all taken the time to reply. Thank you so much. I am taking a print of the replies and forwarding to the lady. I've only met her a couple of times but she has now had to give up a pastime due to this problem so i hope somewhere in here she can find some comfort.

a big thank you once again

i am also going to send a copy to my uncle, without even realising it he has suffered for 18 years (as a builder he worked in the wet & cold) but typical to family trait he never complains just accepts it as the norm.

[sm=1kis.gif] thats for all of you

keep smiling

pj

RE: osteo arthritis asking for help

I used to be a health kinesiologist (I now doing research and writing on health) and I had great success with osteo-arthritis - including with some really sceptical people. I often found that the body wasn't using one of the minerals properly (usually sodium, silica or calcium) and was depositing it in the joints instead. HK has a procedure (SET) that can correct this. If you wnat to find an HK practitioner, you can look at the web site [link= http://www.hk4health.co.uk ]http://www.hk4health.co.uk[/link]

best wishes

Jane
