Hi,
Can anyone provide advice.
My mother who is nearly 83 has been in pain since Feb and diagnosed with this. Doctor has just given her aspirin and did sort of mention an operation which I assume is a replacement.
Are there any other options available. Know that some injections work as well.
Thanks
Hi Yes I suffer with RA and many years ago my knees were swollen and painful, the consultant drained the fluid 🙁 (sorry) but then injected them with steroid it was instant relief. This was a a while ago so im not sure about the proceedure now and if a GP could do it or if you have to see a rheumatologist. hope this is of help,as operations etc are not a pleaseant thought especially if your elderly. Hope your mothers pain eases.
best wishes sarah
Thanks Sarah,
Spoke to my Dad this evening and to cut a long story short she will be referred to a rheumatologist. This person also treated them a while back when they had shoulder complaints and injected them. That worked straight away and was such a relief as they could get on with their lives again.
Thanks for coming back.
Hi Pip G
Sorry to hear your mother is suffering with her knee. What can help it depends rather on what type of arthritis it is. Have you read past threads on arthritis, as there is much to be gleaned there?
Diet can have a big impact, and following an alkaline diet can make all the difference in stopping it spreading further. This is because it reduces the inflammatory load on the body and helps it to rid toxins from normal metabolism more easily. This will reduce pain levels naturally. Whether she will be willing to alter her diet at her age depends rather on how much she wants to feel better!! But she may well not be open to that sort of suggestion as my mother wasn't, sadly. Lack of vitamin D may well be a contributary factor also.
With RA you need to address the gut issues first, but that should be under the guidance of a registered nutritional therapist who is trained to support those with chronic illness, so whatever the cause of the knee problem see if she will consult one. (This is different from a dietician who works under the doctor's orders.) The NT will have many avenues to explore to try and detect the underlying causes and show her how to overcome the problems.
Hope she feels better soon.
pain relief for arthritis
Hi, af when I was suffering with my hip and finally had to have it replaced due to arthritis a friend suggested Rosehip and it makes such a difference to the pain. I still take it now, but I take a combination tablet of rosehip and glucosamine, from my local natural health dispensary. This gives me so much relief and has to all the people I have recommended it to, so please get your mum to try it and also rub glucosamine gel into the affected area as this is more successful than taking it in tablet form . I hope this helps, tina

Rather than preferring the surgical treatments, the problem can be easily cured with Ayurvedic medicines. Contact with the experienced doctor for effective treatment.
