Hi all,
I was told that I had Arthritis in my toes a couple of years ago and every winter it kills me!
It's just started again today and the pain is travelling to my knee... I don't want to see the Dr as last time they said they would inject it to stop the pain. My chiropodist told me to wear pop socks and cotton socks to keep in the heat. Anyone else have any bright ideas?
I'm under 25 and want to keep it as controlled as I can... at the moment I'm already having problems walking on it and I love shoes, but have to stick to the sensible ones!!! 🙁
Thanks in advance
Sian
RE: In my toes!
Lost my original reply to this one, so here's the short version.
Cortisone injections (asssumed) will only treat the symptoms, so it's likely to return sooner or later. Very painful I imagine too.
Sounds more like your circulation to your feet is poor, so suggest something that is more likely to improve that. i.e. reflexolgy or traditional chinese acupuncture.
Do you get chillblains or Reynaud's, where the circulation seems to stop completely to the area, which turns white or blue & goes stone cold?
For other ideas take a look at some of the other Threads on the Arthritis Forum.
Some of my story about early arthritis is on this one -
Good luck - Andrew.
PS - Had chillblains & Reynaud's too.
RE: In my toes!
Hi Sian 🙂
Do you see a rheumatologist?
If not I would ask your doctors to get you referred to one.
They can do a lot more for you than you GP, and will be able to suggest a good medication if needed or what sort of exercises you should be doing. Also any scans they run will show which joints are affected for sure ... incase the arthritis is also in the knee
I totally know where your coming from, im 19 and have arthritis in many joints.[&o]
It first stared with i was 16 with knee pain, after a few months they found out it was arthritis in the hip - even although at that time the hip didnt bother me, i now only have about 30% movement in that hip and the arthritis is NOW in the knee, even though thats where the pain had started, Crazy!
I also imagine they would be talking about Cortisone injections, very very painful and although it may help to ease the pain for a couple of weeks, maybe even a couple of months its not a solution..plus there are only so many injections they can give you.
I think a rheumatologist would be the best bet, also as you would probably be seen every 3 - 6 months they can keep an eye on the arthritis.
Good luck,
Let us know how you get on.

As a Kinesiologist I would test your body for food sensitivities (as there is often a link) and would check whether you are deficiant in certain nutrients which might cause poor circulation, rather than relying on trial and error!! 🙁
Good luck
RE: In my toes!
i have arthritis thriughout my body but this pass fortnight or so my toes have been so painful,my toes are curled under so my nails can no longer be seen,in bed they burn and i have to have them outside the duvet, ive already gone down a shoe size this last few months, cortosone injections are just as painful and dont really help for long.
RE: In my toes!
If you can invest in a footbath, you could use black pepper and Roman Chamomile essential aromatherapy oils in your footbath. Say 5-6 drops of Chamomile and 2-3 drops of black pepper mixed into the water.
These have helped my knees and back, althoug I mix them into a carrier oil and massage them on. But I belive the heat and bubbles and the oils in a foorbath could be the way to ease your discomfort remarkably.
