Any information or experiences please. One of my clients has found great relief from shoulder pain, another says its doing nothing for his hip. Are the magnetic strengths (gausses?) relevant - there was a recent study saying not, I believe, but what do you think?
Thanks, Sharon

RE: copper bracelets - any opinions?

After reading so much good about magnetic bracelets, i eventually got myself one out of my xmas cash.
What finally made me decide to buy one was an article that my mom tore out of a magazine, where a doctor couldn't say enough praise about them. He mentioned that he had suffered years of pain from arthritis and after trying one of these magnetic bracelets, felt relief of certain joints after only 2 weeks. He said that after a month he had more mobility of his neck.
I have worn mine for almost a month now, but as yet, nothing. I've decided to just forget i have it on and just see.
I think if there is the slightest chance that something may give any relief, it is worth perservering and giving it time.

RE: copper bracelets - any opinions?

There's two issues here the copper and the magnets.

The influence on the body of electromagnetic fields 9EMF's) fits in with Traditional Medical Acupuncture theory, but one really aught to establish if it's appropriate for you, what type and which way around to wear it etc.

Also, some are hyper sensitive to EMF's, so they can actually make some folks feel quite ill - I've been there. So note of caution, but worth a try.

Re. The copper issue - a lack of copper can be one of many causes of arthritis. As it's only needed in tiny trace amounts, it's quite feasible that enough oxidises and is absorbed through the skin. So depends on cause or arthritis and possibly skin type. I found this amongst my older ramblings.

I would add to this veritable brew - vitamin C and a copper supplement. These are two key nutrients that are essential in maintaining elasticity in the connective tissues. All our arteries have a supporting layer of connective tissue. A stiffening of the arteries makes them less efficient at maintaining a good supply of blood to the visceral organs and peripheries.

I can dig out references for the copper thing, but in a few examples include:- prevents aortic aneurisms in turkeys, reduces risk of intervertebral disc prolapses. Oh and many find it helpful with arthritis. If they seem unrelated, then I would have to do my sermon on the fact that connective tissue is all that holds us together - from a physical point of view - of course!

Note of caution on the Vitamin C front - if prone to arthritic pain, then a buffered or low acid supplement may be better than increasing intake of fruit, especially citrus fruits.

Andrew.

My husband is amongst the sufferer's of Arthritis, and it affected his hands and fingers badly. The copper bracelet we bought was not effective, but, there is a wristband I purchased for him which has done the trick as it is very very powerful.

I can give you the link if you PM me or email me.

I have heard of the products before, but had to do more research before I was convinced. The wrist band was £28 and worth every penny. He now has use of his fingers and is generally without pain. A much happier man.

RE: copper bracelets - any opinions?

Magnetics? The great debate! Much research has and is being carried out around the globe, yet no one has yet come up with conclusive evidence as to how and why they work.

I am as one would term a magnetic therapist and also a Reiki (III); I sell magnets to people every day and have done so for the last 12 years. In that time I have met many people who have gained enormous benefits and like wise those who have not. ( the higher percentage being those who have, around 80%ish)

Those who have not fall into two categories, 1) the problem they are wearing it for is too far gone for magnets to have any benefit at all and 2) those who have been or not given the correct advice prior to wearing a magnetic unit.

The basis behind the main research (USA) is that magnets are believed to stimulate blood flow. How? Blood cells contain iron (ferrous haemoglobin), we live between the North and South poles of the earth and ALL things are influenced by this phenomenon.
Blood cells are charged +/- (North/South) and are therefore attracted to each other causing a stringing or follow the leader effect (+-+-+-+-+-+-+-) this is of course okay as blood flows through the arteries (3 lane motorway) likewise veins (2 lane motorway) but the problem is believed to be the capillaries (single lane) these of course go to all the extremities the feed the joints, muscles etc, oxygen, nutrients, toxins etc are either deposited or removed, basically everything that is happening to our bodies is blood flow related in some way or another.

When we wear a magnetic bracelet over an artery (ie the wrist) it is believed to stimulate the blood cells and force them to separate, thus creating a greater surface area plus what is termed as “free flow”, the result being more oxygen, more nutrients, more of the bodies toxins are removed + the bodies natural healing processes and defences can access the areas requiring attention and not to forget our little friends the natural bodies pain killers “endorphins” can take effect.

The BIG SECRET behind magnetics and their influence on our bodies? DON’T TAKE THEM OFF!!
Why? When you place a unit upon your wrist you are starting a process, when you take them off the process reverts back to the original stage prior.
Example 24 hours a day people wear them for 16 hours then take them off when they go to bed that’s 8 hours in other words two steps forward one step backwards. This is what I meant by correct advice.

I could go on writing and writing about this subject for hours but one last thing before I close.. Magnetic therapy does not cure and neither is it a replacement for traditional medicines, it is in my opinion a complementary therapy and a useful part of our self help regimes.

Stay well, namaste to all

Phil

I have now wore my magnetic bracelet since before Christmas, not really understanding exactly how it worked. I read with the pamphlet that came with it that it boosted your bodies natural healing ability, but that's all.
I was very interesting reading how these magnets work, thankyou.
By the way, i never take mine off.

RE: copper bracelets - any opinions?

Just thought I'd add my opinion on magnotherapy bracelets (but I am biased as I sell them and am studying magnotherapy!!!) One thing to be aware of is to make sure you are drinking enough water (at least 6 - 8 glasses a day). My mother has suffered from arthritis for years and used to have trouble getting back up if she'd knelt down. After a few weeks of wearing a magnet bracelet she's in less pain & demonstrated how easily she can now get back up! Obviously they won't help all conditions and it will depend on how long the condition has been there as to how long it will take to be helped.

There was a recent study done (funded by the Arthritis Research Council) that has 'proved' magnets help relieve pain in arthritis. A full report on the findings of this very important piece of research was published in the 2004 Christmas issue of the British Medical Journal. The report can also be viewed on the bmj.com website (search using the author's name: T Harlow.)

RE: copper bracelets - any opinions?

Can I please add a few details to the copper/magnetic bracelet discussion?

I treat almost a hundred people each month with the exact products that were so positively tested and reported in the British Medical Journal. A large number of my clients have tried both copper bracelets and the magnetic costume jewellery that is easily available from markets, health food shops, etc. and whilst a few are totally satisfied the majority have suffered such disappointing results that they are reluctant to invest again, even in a properly registered medical device.
Whilst we often hear from peole who have upgraded to a quality item that works for them, we rarely hear of anyone going back to copper or to the others that are widely available.

I see one respondent is studying magnotherapy, could we have details of the course and college please, it sounds fascinating and I know several who would like to join.

Unfortunately there are a lot of therapists, skilled in their own therapy, who give an opinion on magnets without really knowing any facts. Please, before you purchase, check the returns policy and guarantees on products, and don't forget that price may be a guide to quality but pretty and expensive do not always add up to effective.

Regards to all, 🙂

John

Hi, did anyone ever find out what wristband Gillyann was reffering to ? I tried to email her just there, but the email got sent back to me saying there was an error. ( Maybe she's changed her email or something?)

Im interested in trying out a cooper and magnet bracelet for joint pains in my ring fingers on both hands. Anything is worth a try.

Just curious about when some people say magnets have to be facing the correct way. I assume on a bracelet there already on the correct was, facing the skin. Ive heard of people putting them under their beds and things. How do you know what is the correct way, and what isent ? Maybe these products come with a manual. I know there is north and south sides to a magnet. So which side should you face onto your skin ? North side im guessing ?

Thanks, very interesting all this.

ps, the bracelet i was looking at to buy says its ". Magnetic power is 3000 Gauss (300 M Tesla) raw, approx 1700 gauss after capping and coating for protection, This is towards the top end of the "stronger" definition in the British Medical Journal report extracts on how magnetic therapy and magnetic bracelets relieve pain." Here is a link to it, wondering if this is a good one to buy ?

Thanks for any info,

Thrum

Hello Thrum and welcome to HP 🙂 I've only just seen your post, so apologies for a late response.

You may perhaps not have noticed, but if you look at the post above yours you'll see you have replied to an old thread from February 2005.

Hopefully someone else may be able to answer your query, since Gillyann has not posted on HP for quite a while now, and that may explain the error message you got.

Whilst I fully accept the properties of magnetic energy, I am also led to believe that copper is one of the most poisonous metalsfor the body.

Copper is a trace mineral, so we only need a tiny amount, but it has been found to play a key role in the elasticity of connective tissues. Also, it is one of the few things that has been found to maintain vertebral disc integrity. The only other that I know of is glucosamine sulphate.

Does anyone know if there is a magnotherapy unit that can fit on a different body part to the wrist? I do therapies for 5-7 hours a day, and wear no jewellery....

You can purchase neodymium disks that are the size of a 2p piece and are coated in a plastic hypo-allergenic material that you can fix to any part of the body with surgical tape.

There are also smaller ones that are used for the face and neck area and the fingers and toes.

What I would recommend for you because you are on your feet nearly all day is a pair of magnetic insoles to wear in your shoes, these will hve an impact of around 2" but will hit the meridians in your feet.

The information here is for static magnets only.

*Magnets are not to be used by:

Pregnant and lactating women
People fitted with pace makers or other electrical insulin devices
People with cobalt based implants.

RE: copper bracelets - any opinions?

Hello everyone,I feel I must give you the benefit of my limited thoughts on this subject. In a nutshell,I, as a Dairy farmer, am now coming up to 50 ,and you could say have endured a life which has seen me doing many physical jobs ,weight carrying ,shovelling, bale handling, and generally overloading parts of my skeleton(which in the main I enjoyed in a perverse way!) Now some 13 yrs or so ago I did one of my lower discs in ,and damaged my shoulder /neck,all of which have made me wince with the pain ,esp in winter when I get a bit tired/stressed.
My brother in law made me a copper bangle out of some plumbing pipe about 18 months ago,and I have worn it ,on and off,on my left wrist. No real relief was felt at all!! Now my wife does the local papers, and one of her customers ,who has arthritis, told her ,he swaps his from wrist to wrist depending on where the pain is,and she related this to me.I laughed out loud and told her it was all rubbish. However, the next day,I put mine onto my right wrist. Now I,m right handed and the pain I get is mostly right sided. Would you believe ,that within a few days,my shoulder was much better and I can now drive the car in comfort without a back support! I am not saying I dont get discomfort ,but the sharp pain is all gone, and its probably 5 mths now and this is really a bad time of yr for me,but I,m much better than I was. My point is ,get a handyman friend to knock you up a copper bagle out of waste copper pipe and try it,It cant hurt, and if it works for you,hey thats great!

Hi there everybody,
I have met a few people who had to change their copper bracelet every six months as the benfits wear off. My parentsused to wear copper braclets for arthritis and in the past so have I.
But in 1996 I was in so much pain I purchased a magnetic bracelet and I have never looked back. It was the best £30 I ever spent. My husband and I both swear by them and never take them off.

Hi Babs and welcome to Healthypages,

I have met a few people who had to change their copper bracelet every six months as the benfits wear off.

I'm trying to think of a scientific reason why the benefits would wear off, but for the life of me I can't. hmmm... :032:

I find that magnetic therapy is like any other therapy that we use - it is likely to be effective on approx. 70% of the population so some will get effect, some won't.
I also find that some people are more sensitive to magnetic energy and the body will tell you when it has had enough of the magnets and 'ask' you to take them off - in some cases you will find yourself playing with a magnetic bracelet, taking it off and putting it on again until you realise that you will be more comfortable without the magnets on.
Has anyone else had this experience?

Get your hubby or friend to knock a copper bangle up from a piece of waste copper water pipe .
Then you feel chuffed and thrilled you have saved any spend ,and probably feel the better for it , if it doesn't do anything else!!:D
(by the way ,I wear a diy one,and don't take it off either )

I think that its a suck it and see situation. A copper bracelet probably interacts with the magnetism in our blood (iron in the cells producing a magnetic field) This I would have thought slows the blood down a bit possibly giving it more time to effect a repair on any faulty tissue. Why the copper may need recharging or changing beats me.
Can't think why a static magnet is beneficial unless it also interacts with the "moving" blood iron possible opening up the surface area allowing better transfer of nutrients etc.
A specialist years ago thought little of static magnetic treatments but swore by the pulsed magnetic effect produced by some commercial devices.
I'm inclined to agree as the pulsed method should be able to react with any stationary cell in the body not just the mobile ones.
