Hello my name is Tobias and is 21 years old from Sweden and suffering from solar Urticaria ..
Have had it almost two years soon.
It all started after a severe stomach flu / stomach infection

I remember I was in a bit of sun while I was sick but had no rash then.
but it started the day as stomach pain was over.
That was how it all began

Grateful if anyone knows what might have happened to my immune system?

Hello Tobias - Welcome to Healthypages . I hope you enjoy your time here - lots for you to read!

So sorry to hear you have solar urticaria - something I have suffered from most of my life too :(. There is a thread started a number of years ago .

I'm interested in the fact that you had a stomach infection before this started with you. It ties up with the theory about food allergies and intolerances, where the gut wall becomes damaged, and allows molecules from the gut through into the system that would not normally get there. These unexpected molecules can be seen as invaders by the immune system and can be very similar to some in your body - for example the skin cells - and in this case a reaction may be activated by UV rays to cause an allergy.

Do get seen by your doctor who may be able to offer you something to help. S/he will need to know this is a problem for you anyway.

In the end I just keep out of the sun or wear clothes that cover me from the sun. I don't like to use strong sunscreen if I can help it, as you never know what side effects may occur with long-term use of chemicals on the skin.

The most important thing if you have to keep out of the sun is to make sure you have a supplement of vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) in adequate amounts. I didn't know about this and ended up getting all sorts of problems, and now need 10,000 iu daily. I am slowly getting my levels back up. You may need to get your own supplements as it is essential for the body (avoid D2 as it is artificial and doesn't work the same) - see here. Normally the body will make enough vitamin D in the summer to last the year. 5000iu should be adequate if this is a fairly new situation.

Hope this helps - you certainly aren't on your own with this.

Wishing you all the best!
