Hi,
I recently became vegan about three, four days ago. Before then, I was lacto-ovo vegetarian. Over the past two days, I've developed a rash on the back of my thighs, my back and now around my jaw. The one "new" thing I had introduced to my diet was carob (I'm enamoured with chocolate) so I thought perhaps that was it. I cut it out today to see if it would help. Currently, I doing a 21 day detox program so I can't take any medication, but I want to know if this is a result of a diet change or what. I was under the assumption that when you cut out dairy, you cut out all the inflammatory foods? HELP PLEASE!
Thanks!

Unfortunately not. It could literally be anything that you're reacting too and not necessarily a food. Some are of course more common than others & bearing in mind what you've already cut out, common ones would still include;

wheat/gluten, soya & yeast.

Hey there Marguerite

Sorry to hear about your rash, it could any number of things, maybe you should get allergy tests just to be on the safe side.

I am vegan too and can recommend Divine fairtrade dark chocolate and green and blacks organic dark chocolate, there are a few varieties. Although you might want to keep them for a special treat due to the sugar content.

All the best.

p.s I am allergic to wheat, gluten and soya, these are all common allergens.

Well healthy bones do need animal fats but good to ensure that one has yeast free dairy.

Sounds like a reaction, how intuitive are you? Try asking your body what it needs? And then see what you are drawn too.

This could be the body saying no to cutting out more important foods that your body type needs to flourish, best advice surrender control and listen to your body.

This could be your body's way of getting rid of toxins - the skin is a great way to get rid of any impurities. It could be an idea to increasethe amount of water you are drinking, to flush toxins through your system faster.

Your not the only one

I just became a vegan a month ago out of consience and the same thing has happened to me. Im rashing up badly. The only change to my lifestile has been the restrictions on my diet no real new foods. Just larger quantities of fruits nuts and vegetables. Have you found anything that helped it?

I agree with Elliet, that this could be an elimination event following the reduction of adaptive load following dietary improvements.

The distribution, symmetrical and in several areas tends to point to central or common cause. When the Central nervous system gets rid of toxins one route taken is along peripheral nerves to the skin, and the distribution often gives further clues as to what is going on.

I would want to know what is happening to the bowels, and where you are in your menstrual cycle and if you have any issues in that department as well. Backs of thighs can be related reflexively to colon and/or uterus, among other things. Jawline follows a reflex from those same areas, which side it is on tells a story too.

If there are menstrual issues, I wonder if you have suddenly increased your soya intake (oestrogens)? Or have you become constipated?

It could also be that a deficiency has finally tipped over the edge, so there are several possibilities besides allergic reaction. Consider them all carefully, and don't be tempted to a knee-jerk response after such a short time.

Providing you have no other reason to believe you are unwell, I would wait and see what happens before jumping on every new symptom, panic action can cause all kinds of unnecessary problems, time is a very important factor in health.

I would certainly advise you get a personal consultation with a professional and make sure to navigate this properly.

Good luck.
