Hi HP'ers

Do any of you know if it is possible to have only one symptom if you have an allergy to something?
I have this 'nettle sting' type rash, it's painful, sore and extremely itchy and always worse at night, I've had it since early May and done a lot of research on the net but so far I've not found anything about allergies with only one symptom they all say that for it to be an allergy this rash has to be accompanied by something; usually a swelling somewhere or a restriction in the throat area, luckily I've not experienced anything like this.

I did a quick google search. This link links this rash with allergy without other symptoms

The symptoms of swelling and throat constriction are see in anaphylactic shock......an extreme potentially fatal allergic reaction. Rash is a very common symptom of penicillin allergy...and sometimes the only symptom

I am allergic to penicillin and, if I have it, I feel like I am going to die...the symptoms are intense and overwhelming.

Becky...could it be related to nerves/anxiety, i.e. a nerve rash?

Something which removes the itchiness is to sponge it with vinegar, e.g. cydar vinegar. It might briefly sting (i.e. if you have scratched the area and burst the surface of the skin pores) but you will find relief from the itchiness (works with flea bites and mosquito bites too).

Hi Tashanie thanks for taking the time to reply but I've not had any penicillin I can't work out what is causing it, I did see this pattern emerging for a short while, or at least I thought I did when it was much worse after consuming dairy products so I stopped but the rash and itching stayed the same then got worse.
Amy; I have nothing to be nervous or anxious about but thank you for the cider vinegar idea I will do that right now!

Love to you both

Rebecca

I wasn't suggesting penicillin is the cause of your allergy....just using that as an example of an allergy where rash is the only symptom. It is not that uncommon.

Some allergies only appear on your skin. It is totally possible.

Sometimes allergies appear on the upper dermis area only.

Its very much possible to show a single symptom to an allergy, especially if it not a life threaning allergy. for example my cousing is allergic silk bed sheets or cloths and the only symptom is some serious rash that disappear ones he is off the material.
