I try not to take any medicine other than natural products. I use alot of vitamin C before the effects of Hay Fever Season. Has anyone else ever experienced a cure from using Vitamin C for Hay Fever?

Vit c

Starfish

I've tried it in the past on myself and others and I can say the success rate was only 50%. What I found was that slowly I need to take more and more as the body seems to get used to a particular dose then it stops working. So I gave up just relying on vitamin c for hayfever.

Vitamin C, probably no. Citrates perhaps for their alkali properties after digestion. As a strategy this might work in the context of a diet that is overall towards the alkali end of the spectrum. Bear in mind there are other factors in our overall acid loading besides diet. Also any backlog of cleaning of accumulated toxins makes this a long-term strategy. Other methods for toxin reduction are probably needed also, tailored to the individual, of course.

Vit C for hay fever?

I have had hay fever since I was 7 and nothing shifted it until last year. I tried Vit C, honey, chewing bees wax, acupuncture and to no avail. I was stuck on tablets, a nose spray, eye drops and an inhaler (for hay fever related asthma). Eventually, last year I had Bowen therapy for my back problems and as I was being treated my therapist told me that my hay fever would disappear too. That would be a bonus I thought but was not holding my breath! Luckily it did indeed work! I am a very happy bunny now! Roll on this summer.

Vitamin C is an important nutrient that is required in higher quan*tities than normal in hay fever. This is because the adrenal cortex uses vitamin C to synthesize the hormones it produces. Several studies into the effect of high doses of vitamin C on hay fever symptoms have shown that it has properties similar to many antihistamines, but without the side effects. Unfortunately, vita*min C is quickly used up in the body, especially by smoking, alcohol consumption, surgery, trauma, stress, exposure to pollutants and the use of certain medications. Fruits – a rich source of vitamin C – are mucus-forming foods so should be eaten in moderation; however, there are some exceptions, such as strawberries, blueberries (bilberries) and raspberries, which are high in bioflavonoids. Other ‘ hay fever-friendly food sources are broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cab*bage, sauerkraut, cauliflower, kale, turnips, spinach, potatoes and peppers (capsicum). As this vitamin is easily destroyed by heat and over-processing, cook your vegetables, preferably by steaming, for as little time as possible.
It is highly recommended to use vitamin C supplementation as part of your treatment regime. Look for the type that is combined with bio*flavonoids, such as quercetin, catechin and hesperidin – these com*pounds have an anti-inflammatory effect on the mucous membranes. Bioflavonoids also increase the effectiveness of vitamin C by prevent*ing it from being depleted by smoking, alcohol consumption and so on. In effect, bioflavonoids are able to greatly improve the body’s abil*ity to absorb and retain vitamin C. In the treatment of hay fever, it is recommended that you take 1,000 mg three to five times a day.

Not about Vit C but I have heard that smearing a little vaseline around the nostril entrances helps with hay fever.

Vitamin C certainly made all the difference to my lifelong hayfever problems. 2-3000mg per day in divided doses helps to reduce the threshold at which histamine is released. I now no longer have the problem. The vasseline trick (amy green) can be helpful to to before you have to go to an area where you know there will be a problem - eg grass field!.

NB huyhoang's post below contains some excellent explanations and advice.

I have been trying to treat my bad hayfever naturally and have found nettle tablets (500mg) taken 2-3 times a day, plus water with apple cider vinegar and finally (this really helps) a teaspoon of tumeric taken in the morning with water. Its not the most delightful taste but it really helps. Let me know how you get on.

It's actually a case to case basis. Some people find Vitamin C effective in treating hay fever. I've read about combining Vitamin A and C as more effective in treating hay fever naturally. Unfortunately, the majority don't find it helpful. You can try it and see if it works for you because it really depends on the person. I have allergic rhinitis and taking Vitamin C did not improve anything although I still take the vitamin for different reasons.

Try facial massage

Hi,
A facial massage can also help with relieving hay fever symptoms.
Here is a useful link that outlines routine

Taking vitamin c in powder form has helped me a lot especially when my hay fever is quite bad but I guess it is different for everyone.

Hi! StarFish! 🙂

Vitamin C has natural antihistamine activity in the body. Research proves that it can help control hay fever symptoms. For instance, kiwifruit contains more vitamin c that effective natural anti-histamine, and also supports healthy immune function from secondary respiratory conditions. 😉

Yes. Vitamin C plays an important role in supporting the immune system. Vitamin C supplementation has antihistamine which is the most common treatment for hay fever. You can get it from oranges and capsicum which are the best source of Vitamin C.
