Hi there, I have just found out that my hot water tank is forming hydrogen sulphide in my hot water, which I have been using for all the usual daily hot water usages such as bathing, washing pots and cutlery etc. I developed chronic cholinergic urticaria just over 3 years ago- does anybody know if this could be a factor? Or if there are any other health risks involved?
Apparently this is a common problem that many people do not know they have.
Any information that anybody can give me regarding this would be very gratefully recieved!
I would get someone from Environmental Health or a qualified heating engineer/plumber in to have a look at your boiler system - hydrogen sulphide is a gas and is probably not being produced by the water but by your hot water boiler.
The hydrogen sulphide is being produced by an old magnesium rod in my hot water tank, which I am having replaced with an aluminium one, which will not react with the traces of sulphur in the water to produce the gas, and solving my problem from now.
My concern however is if anyone has heard of any known health risks this may/may not have exposed me to?
The technics of this apparently 'common' problem are easy to find through research on the internet, but the same sites also state that the presence of this gas in the hot water system in the amounts that are present pose no risks whatsoever- I find this hard to believe, and surely continued exposure to any toxic gas no matter how small the amount must pose some consequences?
