Hi
For everyone who has managed to stop smoking it would be really good to hear from you about the benefits of stopping i.e. saved money, what health benefits you've noticed or anything else that has been a positive thing.

Mine would be after 12 days of not smoking (although I had cut down drastically for a good few weeks before to 5 per day):

1. Not forever running to the shop to buy a packet
2. Saving money
3. Not smelling of cigs
4. Chest is improving now after my recent severe illness

Still waiting for my smell and taste to return but at the moment think this could still be down to my illness.

So hopefully in a few weeks I'll have a few more positives to report.

That Easy Way to Quit Smoking book covers a few reasons to quit, I think.

Being able to afford extra luxuries like having my hair coloured to get rid of the grey hairs that are now starting to show

1. Saving myself £300+ a month on cigs (back before year 2000!) I gave up 1st Jan 2000 smoking 40 - 50 per day.
2. Not having a chest infection since (touch wood) I used to get a nasty one each winter, now I get a cold and its over and done with within a couple of days.
3. Not having to feel 'guilty' about having a ciggie - I could never smoke one outside my home without someone looking sending me a distasteful glance.
4. Not make my children suffer the horrendous smoke filled car any more 🙁
5 Saving myself at least 2 extra hours each day.
6. No longer smelling of ciggies ... I didnt notice at the time.. but boy do I notice my daughters clothes now (she smokes a few ciggies a day).

Everything has been positive since 🙂

Well I bet I'm saving a fortune too as I was on at least 20 per day - so that's 7 packs per week so nearly £35 per week but I know I bought more than 7 packs per week!

Keep them coming!

Wowsers. That's £3600 a year. You could buy a second hand car every year for that kind of money. Or a really luxury holiday.

I know - can't believe how much money you save not smoking - don't need to work full-time now!

Tell me about it... my husband was also spending in the region of £200 per month on ciggies and we gave up together - so saving us on average £500 per month so up to New Year saving a huge £42,000 in total. How frightening is that!!! We have since bought (mortgage) our own home and both my husband and I run a new car (well they were new 3 years ago when we bought them). I would never dream of smoking again as I couldn't bare to live without life's luxuries that I become accustomed to nowadays lol!! (Only kidding!) But joking aside... we do have excess extra now each month which we put to good use instead of just smoking the money away. I love being a non-smoker 😎

I'm saving loads of money too - it's like when I go out now I don't have to say when my partners asks do I need anything it used to be yes "ciggies", now I say no "nothing". And also if I was at home I'd have to pop out every day to buy some - well now I don't.

My partner has just said to me today he thinks I'm doing really well with not smoking as I never mention them now, or say oh I fancy one, haven't even been bad tempered or turned to food. So I'm well pleased as is my Dr. and my mum!
