Hello everyone

I'm going to be attempting to quit smoking again soon but I'm not sure which way to go about it. Part of me wants to go cold turkey without the use of any patches etc but I'm also a bit worried by going solo because it's obviously going to be tough on the body.

It would also be helpfull if someone who has quit for sometime now how long their withdrawal symptoms lasted, especially the uncomfortable nights of sleep. I know everyone is different when it comes to withdrawal so anyone who would say they suffered the worst symptoms then it would be good to hear your story.

Thank you in advance for any advice, stories etc etc.

I gave up smoking nearly 4 years ago cold turkey. Well, I say cold turkey, I read the " Allan Carrs Easy way to stop smoking " book. Something in that book just CLICKED for me!! And I've never smoked or had the desire to smoke again. It's the best thing I ever did. Now I can see what a bloody slave I was to the horrible things 🙁

There's never a GOOD or BAD time to give up. There is always going to be things that happen in your life where " having a fag. " could help.. But does it??
4 weeks after I stopped smoking I had to have my 14 year old dog put to sleep. I was devastated believe me. If there was ever a time I could have caved in it would be then! Did I?? No, because it would not have brought my dog back, it wouldn't have made me feel better AND I'd have been back to square one.

I decided to go cold turkey because I didn't want to draw the process out. Personally, it was the first 4 days that were the hardest (( really hard.. )) but after that it was a gradual incline and personally I feel like I healed quicker than people I've seen heal on patches, which come to think of it, I don't personally know any success stories from people who stopped smoking on patches. (( there is success, but I personally don't know anyone ))
I know 1 person who quit 5 years ago on Nico gum, she is STILL chomping nico gum even now... And STILL craves cigarettes which must be awful after so long.

Good luck however way you choose to stop!! It'll be the best thing you ever do. Get your mind in a good place and go for it.

Remember, You are not giving anything up! You are stopping and so will smell better, feel better, healthier, your taste will improve. I read Allen Carr's The Easy Way to Stop Smoking and it really helped. A friend at the moment is having success with the e-cig. You still need willpower. Best of luck!

I think that overcoming addiction through sheer willpower has to do with you flipping the switch in your brain. This means just telling yourself ‘regardless of what is going to happen, I am not going to fold’. I feel like using patches it just another way of prolonging the inevitable. Others might disagree, but it is what I think.

Before you try anything, do yourself a favor and try reading "The easy way to stop smoking" by Allen Carr.

I personally know 10 people who quit smoking just by reading the book, without even going to seminars. So did i, after 35 years of smoking. I'm not saying it will work for sure but i recommend trying before going for the harder (than reading a book) methods.
