Hi
For those of you who are trying or have stopped smoking what sort of withdrawal symptoms have you experienced or are going through.

Just curious to know how it differs for everyone.

Janet,

i know its hard at first to stop smoking as, i stopped myself, 3 or 4 years ago.
I just craved the smoking hit, that what happens, a craving. I came on then passed. I was hard to stop but it was the best thing I did.

I started to feel from the inside that it was now worth getting fit and healthy. When smoking, with every smoke i was harmming myself, so why bother being healthy.

Steve

Hi everyone,
Some thoughts on giving up smoking.......

Some years ago, I was co-facilitating a group on addictions and my colleague asked: "Has anyone had any physical symptoms from stopping smoking?" No-one answered, so I shared my physical withdrawal: "Yes, I didn't have sex for nearly 3 weeks..... because I was such a bitch my partner wouldn't come near me!"

I smoked over a lot of years, giving up 3 times for 3 years each time. In my mind, it really is a case of "when you are really ready to do it......" When I finally gave up over 10 years ago, it was after my first Reiki session, when I found myself breathing incredibly deeply through my mouth: I felt like I was drinking in the air in great gulps and it was wonderful. Giving up smoking was (relatively) easy after that, though I occasionally still feel tempted when I see a packet of Regal King Size (luckily very infrequently in this part of the world). One of the main things that stops me giving in to temptation is the knowledge that the first one will be absolutely vile! I really feel that, finally, I have finished smoking: for the other 3 times I had "stopped".

And, if you are still reading......... acupuncture. I have experienced and been trained in the form of auricular acupuncture which is used to help people who are withdrawing from cigarettes, drugs, alcohol etc. I have no doubt it helps immeasurably in reducing cravings, quietening anxiety and de-toxifying the body. It brings a peace and quietness to your world, or perhaps just to your day and the more often you have it, the more long-lasting the effect will be. I often tell people "After you have this, the world is still sh*t: it just doesn't seem to matter as much...." However, to give up smoking, "you gotta havta wanta" - in the end, when you are motivated to do it, it will happen.

Now, can anyone tell me how to lose weight? I'm still waiting for the motivation.....

Cheers
Debbie

I had panic attacks during the day, was waking in the middle of the night with racy heart, palpitations, sweats, was tired, depressed and I must have been clenching my jaws through the night as I put my TMJ joints out in my face and ended up having to have physio and acupuncture for it - can you believe all of this just giving up smoking! But I was over 20 per day for 30 years and it's now 17 weeks since I had one and don't even think of them or want one now. Think some long distance reiki helped and also there's nothing like a health scare to make you quit for good. I've been told I won't ever be able to have the odd one - like if you have a nice meal some people treat themselves to a cig afterwards but my homeopath said he didn't think I'd be able to do that! But hey - no way would I even had one now. MY GP said it takes 6 months max to get rid of the bad stuff going on inside and by the end of June I'll have hit 6 months max. If anyone ever wants to talk to me about quitting and what I went through just ask or send a PM

Yes it does. In fact, in a scientific study published in New Scientist magazine, it was the second most effective way of giving up smoking after hypnotherapy.

There are many health benefits acquired when one stops smoking. If people stop smoking, the toxic gases in the blood will drop to normal, within two or three weeks, lung function increases and in a few months coughing and shortness of breathe decrease. In a year’s time major diseases can be avoided. Log on to: to get lots of information.

During the quitting process people should consider the following physical symptoms of withdrawal as they were recuperating from a disease and treat them accordingly as they would any physical symptoms:

Tingling in the hands and feet
Sweating
Intestinal disorders (cramps, nausea)
Headache
Cold symptoms as the lungs begin to clear (sore throats, coughing, and other signs of colds and respiratory problem)
