Hi folks. There is something quite cathartic about spilling your inner most to people you don't know. So here goes. I have been drinking heavily for about 15 years now and hiding it well. Very well in fact as i work in the fitness industry and mental health services. I have recently tried to go cold turkey and managed 2 days. I felt bloody awful, irritable, anxious, shakes and headaches. I know why i drink and stopping drinking made the reasons stand out more. We addicts all have reasons why we do what we do. So, how do you defeat them? The drink is the easy bit really.
I agree with you bertramfinks, we addicts all have reasons why we do what we do. I’m also an alcoholic, I can’t resist not to take a drink for a day, my problem is when I start drinking I can’t stop myself until I pass out. I really want to stop this bad habit of mine. So what I did, is I search some good rehab center that can help me through this, I already emailed some of them. Currently, I'm reading this Drug Rehabilitation Center Fontana that I receive from my mail. Hopefully, I will find a good rehab center and be fully recovered. I’m open for some advice or alternative ways that can help me to stop my addiction, I just want you to know that I’m doing this for my family, and I hope you guys find your reason to stop your addiction. God bless us all.
I would be cautious of any 'rehab' centre emails you receive as often they are spam and have been sent by spammers usually out to obtain your details or extort money from you (and please don't post links to such unchecked organisations on the forums). If you want to find a rehab centre you should check out ones that are local to yourself or speak with your doctor (or any local groups that meet for dealing with similar issues if there are any near you) who should be able to advise you of ones with good reputations and results.
I was moved by reading some of the posts here and have started a new thread on the Christianity pages with accounts of healing of addictions through a new view of ourselves and our relationship to what I call God. I know it sounds impossible, but I have known many individuals who have either been healed instantaneously or their thought has been so filled with joy and spirituality that they haven't even noticed that their addictions have fallen away.
I knew a man who bought a 20p copy of Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy from the sale table at his local library. He used to drink a whole bottle of vodka a day (I'm surprised it didn't kill him!) Two weeks after starting reading the book, he walked past the off licence and realised that he hadn't been in there for days and hadn't even noticed. He had had no withdrawal symptoms and no desire ever again for another drink.

Hi bertramfinks.
I had been an alcoholic for 5 years. I had felt too the irritation, anxiety, depression, shakes, headaches, and any other terrible feelings. I've tried to go AA, counselor, and different meetings to cope with my addiction. The hardest is the start of it. But thankfully I've become sober for 3 years, but currently I think I'm having a relapse and it's quite depressive, and my family thinks that I would need to go treatment so I've been searching online for some Alchohol Addiction programs to have some info and ideas about this kind of stuff. Hopefully that would help.
I win
I've beaten it. Three months and counting. Thanks for the advice.
Congratulations! You've made it that far and still counting. I just wish you and I could be sober for more years. Cheers for us!. 🙂
Addictions, in the end, have little to do with the addictive substance. They have to do with filling the gap in your life that something else has left.
To that end, you stand more chance of succeeding if you understand and heal that gap than if you engage in war with the substance. War never has winners. In a war, everyone loses.
Good advice Crowan! 😎
Rehab centers are the best options to get rid of any kind of addiction. They will provide a stable and healthy environment to achieve our goal. The main benefits of rehab center over a self-plan strategy is that the possibility of getting alcohol/ drug is zero. this will help us to overcome the high temptation towards the alcohol. I had been addicted to alcohol for 3 years and sought the help of Edgewood, Toronto () an addiction treatment center to get rid of it. It helped me to be clean and sober. 🙂
