RE: addication to co-proxamol
Hi,
there was some discussion on this previously. Maybe you can look at this one:
[link= http://www.healthypages.net/forum/tm.asp?m=287523&mpage=1&key=co%2Dproxamol񆌣 ]http://www.healthypages.net/forum/tm.asp?m=287523&mpage=1&key=co%2Dproxamol񆌣[/link]
or if you go to the search option on the top of the page and just type co-proxamol in you will find more discussions.
Hope this is of help.
RE: addication to co-proxamol
Does the pain return of you don't take them or do you get anxious or any other syptoms?
I believe that they're being withdrawn from the UK market only on the grounds of the high incidence of suicide from overdoseing on them.
I've quoted the below as I would suspect and treat as an allergy related problem.
ADDICTION TO OVER-THE-COUNTER and PRESCRIPTION DRUGS
Addictions to over the counter and prescription drugs affect different people differently. They work on the nervous system. They reduce pain and discomfort. They induce sleep. If used in moderation, they can improve the quality of your life. These drugs also have addictive qualities like alcohol, these are subject to being abused, be it for pain disorders or sleep disorders. Most people who suffer from such disorders are allergic to many things around them. When they begin taking drugs, they can experience momentary well being, which will eventually lead towards overuse only to become addicted very soon. Addiction to drugs could be due to allergies. Drugs can be tested by NTT and treated very effectively with NAET®. When the allergy is gone, the drugs can work for you to give you the expected result. Soon over-use of drugs can be avoided. People usually lose the drug dependency after NAET® treatment.
Basic ten should be treated before treating for drug-allergy.

RE: addication to co-proxamol
Does anyone know what the equivalent is in the US of this? I googled it, but couldn't find it.
I did find this on a uk site:
Co-proxamol will be withdrawn from the market over the next six months, following advice from the Committee on Safety of Medicines (CSM), the independent expert body which advises the government on medicines. The CSM have found that there is little evidence to show that co-proxamol is more effective at relieving pain than paracetamol alone. In addition, around 300-400 self-poisoning deaths each year, of which around a fifth are accidental, involve co-proxamol. The medicine will therefore be withdrawn, as its benefits do not outweigh its serious risks in overdose. If you are taking this medicine there is no need for panic or concern, but you should make a non-urgent appointment with your doctor so that an alternative painkiller can be arranged. Equally effective and less risky painkillers are available. If you have been taking co-proxamol continuously for a long time you should not stop taking it suddenly without consulting your doctor.

The molecule that you need to look for is Dextropropoxyphene.
There are many products available some are listed here for you -
PROPOX HCL, NOVAGESIC, PARAGESIC, DOXAPAP. In most cases 1 of these is equivalent to two Co-Proxamol in UK.
I don't know if you can purchase on the net though.
FYI I am a pharmacist and yes they are terribly addictive as they give you a high so you become dependant. As for suicide, deaths have been recorded after people have taken 11 single units and the cautionary label states do not take more than 8 a day.
I agree with Anahata - perhaps you could manage your pain in a different way. Tackle the stress associated with your whole life style and make changes.
Best of luck - Andaya
RE: addication to co-proxamol
Interesting snippet Andaya - will run that one by my pharmacist friend.
Think the reason for the withdrawal was only based on the frequency of using co-praximol specifically for suicide.
On the addictive front, then I guess I'd assumed it was related to codeine content.
