Hi guys! Please welcome me in your forum! 😀

Obviously I am new here. I am a medical student, currently in my third year. I realised that by joining forums such as this, I will be able to expound my knowledge and understanding about medicine and diseases. I also get to talk to actual patients experiences that I could use to my advantage in excelling in medicine school! 🙂

I am really excited to be part of this forum and the discussions! I'll see you around.

Hi nedrah and welcome to Healthypages,

I'm not sure how you come to understand that a forum such as this will expound your knowledge of medicines and diseases. Complementary health looks at disease or issues from a different perspective than the orthodox medical community, and the treatments are typically anything but pharmaceutical medications.

I don't think the information you find here will particularly be what your med school are looking for.

Welcome!!! The more conventional practitioners who get a feel for complementary medicine the better IMO..

As you can see I have a foot in both camps - and while it can be challenging at times it is always interesting. Good luck with your medical studies

Welcome here Nedrah
Exposure to holistic outlook will certainly broaden the horizons. Conventional medics poo poo the alternative as mumbo jumbo and alternatives poo poo the conventional as unenlightened. Truth is both have limitations, both have their great points. Both need to embrace each other with openness of head and heart. Neither camp is perfect.
Well done for delving into other approaches
Something tells me you make a good doctor
May you be of great service

PS: Good for you for being open-minded enough to factor in knowledge about diet/nutrition, and natural treatments.

The greatest boost to the nation's health would be an embracing of a change in lifestyle from the norm to sound nutrition with healthy natural foods, sunshine and exercise.

I agree, Tashanie. I have been lucky enough with a few Doctor's I've been to in the past. Either open to discussing alternative medicines, or holistic therapies. One specific Doctor seemed to be more than just open to the idea, seemed to know a lot about it. Not all were, but a few were welcoming.

I believe the more "Traditional" Doctors who are accepting of alternative medicines or therapy's, the better their patients can benefit from that knowledge gained.

Well our medicine school does not teach us that we should always think conventional. I mean we are open to complementary and alternative medicine. We might be learning more of a conventional way as a medical student but in the end, IMO, it is still important to understand every point of views of every practitioner be it alternative or conventional because after all, we are aiming for one thing which is to heal ailments. I don't see a problem me being a conventional student of medicine. 🙂
