Hello Everybody!!

I'm just looking for some uptodate information on this subject. I make my own skincare, and it's fabulous (if I do say so myself :D) I would love to move onto selling it. I'm already a Holistic and Deep Tissue Massage therapist and would like to sell it in my clinics and online.
Now, I know there have been discussions about this in the past, but the ones I seem to be able to find is at least 2 years old. I know there has been a bit of a change in the EU laws regarding this stuff, but honestly, after a week of sifting through the internet trying to find out exactly what I need to know, I'm feeling a little cross-eyed!!
So, if anyone could help me out, I would appreciate it more than I can say :1kis:
Specifically, what I need to know is:

 • What exactly do I need to do to legally sell my products? I know I need to get them tested but I don't know where to go for this.
 • Also, I know I need product liability insurance - can anyone recommend an insurance company?
 • Does anyone know of any good wholesalers for ingredients, jars, bottles etc?
 • Is that everything? Is there anything else I should know?

I hope this isn't cheeky asking all this, I've never used a forum before but I figure this is probably the best place to come as there are like-minded people here who probably know a lot more about this than me!!
Honestly, any information and I would be so grateful.

Thanks guy, stay healthy :p:048::043::newangel:

Hi you need to consult with a chartered chemists for cosmetics, do a google search and it will bring up some. I make and sell a range of products and have my products cover as an add premium on my ht cover.

For bottles jars again do a google search, I have used naturally thinking before and they are ok

since new regs came in to force in July you need to register every product - can I recommend you contact your local trading standards for info

Hi Cherrybbomb

Started to reply about the legal stuff but it got too long and I didn't want to put you off so here's an edited version.

Yes it's overkill but you need to know a lot about the regulations if you're producing skincare products legally even on a very small scale. Key areas include getting Cosmetic Safety Assessments for all your products, registering on the new EU database, knowing what has to be on your label and in what format and what back up documentation you need for your products.

My advice is to speak to your local Trading Standards people. They're usually very helpful, should have some leaflets for you and are the people who enforce the laws once you start producing products.

Also there really good courses which take you through what's needed. For example Make your own cosmetics courses, home study and workshops is home study or there are plenty of one or two day courses which will help you get your head around the regulations.

Hope that helps you get going
