Those whom the gods would destroy, they first make mad.

I know a lot of remainers who think the same about Brexiters.. and labour voters who think anyone who supports Corbyn is mad. I don't think anyone is mad - and I try to see the world through their eyes to try and understand why they voted as they did. I do not think Trump Corbyn or Brexit are the answer to anything - but I respect the rights of those who do , to hold those views. Sometimes things have to fall apart to become stronger. It could all work out ok............

I admire your optimism. I don't think there was a good choice - Trump or Clinton, we're a little further towards nuclear war, further than ever from tackling climate change and still stuck with 'The Establishment' in power.

I wasn't saying Trump voters are mad, or Brexit voters - I can recognise alienation and disconnection when I see it and I'd say that possibly Clinton voters and Remain voters are the crazy ones, for thinking we can change the system from the inside. No, the 'mad' thing is in thinking that a multi-billionaire who seems not to pay tax is 'anti-establishment'. As daft as thinking that Farage is.:(

Is it possible that much of this is our own fault. Do we lean too much on America and not stand on our own two feet.
This goes for Europe as well. Europe needed strong leadership not self seeking politicians. That is one of the reasons that I voted to leave the EU. The potential for Europe inclusive of Britain was enormous but it needed people of vision who can unite countries without pushing their own ego driven agenda. If Trump is ego driven and not wisdom driven then he can do enormous harm to world stability because the steps that he has so far described to regain what he sees as Americas greatness are contrary to the rest of the world's practices. Ignoring carbon limits, blocking free trade, making alliance partners feel uneasy, disregarding ethnic minorities, all contribute to unease and worry, and this is the last thing that anyone wants.

With only one or two possible exceptions, aren't politicians 'ego-driven'. Yes, Trump seems to be. So does Clinton. So are many in the EU. So are many in the UK.

But you are wrong when you say this is the last thing that anyone wants. It's what many people want.
