No mention of TTIP? This is rather scary!

Whilst I share some of your apathy, I am not down for the count yet and I believe that doing something is FAR better than laying down and being a passive doormat. At least you can then look back and say "well, I tried". If enough people get behind this matter (and the numbers are swelling - in important places too) then who knows what could happen? Not saying it can be stopped totally but even a compromise would be some kind of success.

I really hope and pray you are right and enough people open their eyes to what is being done and take action.

From SumOfUs.org

The US Senate failed to pass “Fast Track”, the first step in the process to ram through disastrous trade deals like TTIP. This could be the beginning of the end for TTIP -- but only if we ramp up the pressure on our side of the Atlantic as well.

Several leaks of secret treaty drafts have let us know just how dangerous the trade deal is: With TTIP everything we care about is on the chopping block -- workers’ protection, environmental standards, our food safety and our NHS.

The European Commission has been blasting out on all horns to put a positive spin on TTIP. So we made this video to counter the spin and hot air coming from the Commission.

Our democracy is on the line -- let's make sure as many people as possible see this video and learn about what's at stake.

From RT.com
Leader of France’s National Front party, Marine Le Pen, has launched a month-long blitz against the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) – a proposed EU-US treaty, which has been criticized for secretiveness and lack of accountability.
Its a crazy world when a right-wing politician is more concerned about our freedom and democracy than mainstream politicians!

It really shows the disconnect between the people and the politicians serving us (allegedly).

Oh Obama...what a bummer!

I read though that next month it is expected to face a tougher showdown so, at this stage, it is not yet a fait accomplit. We can only hope...and keep up the campaign.

I like your optimism, but I have no faith in politicians to do the right thing for the people, the only faith I have in politicians is that they will do what serves their interests and the interests of whichever organisation is supporting them the most.

Ha...I'm in!

What do you think of Russell Brand and his forays into this? I think he was discussed on another thread but that just Reiki Pixie commented. I might be wrong on this. (Russell has a book out on revolution - drawing on other leading lights on this; I confess I haven't read it though). There are several youtube vids of this. He is sincere but, perhaps, a tad niaive and of course (by his own confession) is narcissistic which can eclipse any ability to make serious developments on this. Hoisted by his own petard maybe!

So the campaign continues. Have we formally adopted TTIP or are such agreements non-binding?

I hear TTIP will destroy the NHS as due to various reasons, US companies will be able to sue the NHS for not adopting medicines that are currently not approved over here because they're deemed as dangerous whilst they're permitted in the US (thanks to campaigning via backhanders).

And the only way to save the NHS is the vote Brexit!

I hope this info is wrong. Maybe it depends on how dangerous the medicine is deemed in US. Drugs do get taken off the market there when there is a proved link with serious side effects, as was the case with an anti inflammatory drug. I would name it but, for some reason, the brand name is BANNED* from this forum!(?), i.e. when I tried to send this post a sign came up saying so. People developed increased risks of heart attacks and strokes following the use of this drug.

How I know this is that my mother was taken off of this anti inflammatory (given for her arthritis) TOO LATE and succumbed to her first stroke! Before that she was a physically strong woman....still makes me angry!

* That has got me thinking....why would this be? I thought this was a UK forum....

Some words are banned as they are commonly used by spammers - and foreign pharma ceutical spam is quite common

I think Jeremy Hunt is doing a good enough job of destroying it without help from the US.

I can't really improve on Amy's reply. But your question should be - 'What is TTIP'. It hasn't gone away.

If something like TTIP can still be unknown after all this time, how can the general public know enough to make any sensible decision about anything?

Thanks, Amy. Wales has 4 MEPs. Two have already stated they will not support CETA (Plaid Cymru and UKIP). The other two have done and said nothing, so I have written to them.
Let's hope it works!

I wrote to my MEP (Labour). She has had 15 similar emails but no reply. Hmmm...wonder what the resistance is?

On what do you base this? Why are you not against it? Please don't do as you have done before - drop a comment like this into the discussion and then ignore the replies.
By the way - TTIP and CETA, while similar, are not the same.
