Looked through link, rather wished I hadn't. This world is past the point of no return and the minions amongst us haven't got a cat in hells chance of changing anything.

Well there is hope if you looked at the last entry on that link.

Although I am a realist (i.e. like to know the truth - however unpleasant - rather than bolstering my own beliefs), I tend to switch off when the news talks of war; it's my cut off point of tolerance. War is legalised murder. Hence I don't have a comprehensive worldly knowledge of the current state of global politics. This is part of the reason I am asking the question of this thread. Perhaps someone better informed can say whether it's always been like this (or simarly) and not to worry!

I have put this same link on another forum and been told (by one member there) it is not a good source of knowledge i.e. constitutes 'fake news'. I realise that it may well not be the defining appraisal on the topic but, in the absence of the imminence of World War III being mentioned in the media (e.g. TV or radio), I thought I would sound out what is the current thinking on this.

I'm not sure that the last entry is anything other than wishful thinking. That's a bit like the determined 'hopium' of every article on climate change - a comment about how it's not too late, at the end of a lot of evidence that it is too late.

No, it hasn't always been like this. There was a time that there was real hope - for peace, for equality, for the planet. Sadly those things don't make profits for the wealthy and don't convey yet more power on the powerful.

I never take links of this type seriously. Often it is fake news but also it probably links together quite spurious things.No-one thought when Archduke Ferdinand was assassinated that world war had begun. That was only realised in retrospect. So whatever this article is suggesting is speculative.

The world is not in as good state - but I believe (hope) the pain is part of necessary change that will make it better ( yes even Brexit and Trump!!) But I do not believe world war has started even though I recognise that events could theoretically spiral in that direction

Interesting. I have made this same thread on another forum and included this link there. A member there is dissing Obama for his foreign policy which, the implication is, making US less powerful. However, your link shows Obama is presenting a false front and reinforcing the US military capacity.
